Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Molvi Umar Farooq on Friday said that the situation in Kashmir is “grim” and appealed United Nations to take send a high level team for on spot assessment of the ground situation in Kashmir Valley.
“We have already welcomed the UNHRC report on human rights situation in Kashmir but it is time that a team be sent to Kashmir for spot inspection of the situation,” he said while addressing weekly Friday congregation at the historic Jamia Masjid in the interiors of Srinagar city .
Mirwaiz, who was released from house detention an hour before Friday prayers, also said that it was highly condemnable that all the resistance leadership has been caged ahead of the world rights day and that nocturnal raids were being conducted on activists while candle light vigil too was being disallowed.
After the weekly congregational Friday prayers concluded, the Mirwaiz led a protest against the “rising graph” of rights violations in Kashmir outside Jamia Masjid Srinagar.
