Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has arrested six persons involved in illegal mining and transportation of minerals in Baramulla and later seized 6 vehicles from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that it initiated action under the supervision of SDPO Pattan/Tangmarg/ Kreeri assisted by SHO Police Station Kreeri, IC Police Post Kungamdara & Police Post Mirgund seized 6 vehicles (4 tractors and 2 tippers), involved in illegal mining and transportation of minerals at Shrai, Khanpeth, Goom Ahmadpora, Kungamdara & Kreeri Baramulla. Police in its statement further said that the accused drivers have been identified as Ashiq Hussain Khokar S/o Mohammad Arshid R/o Check Treran, Asif Ali Bhat S/o Ali Mohammad R/o Odina, Mohd Ibrahim Wani S/o Gh Mohd R/o Goom Ahmadpora, Zahoor Ahmad Ganie S/o Mohammad Akbar R/o Kungamdara, Mohd Shafi Dar S/o Gh Mohd & Parvaiz Ahmad Lone S/o Mohammad Sultan both residents of Jal Sheeri.
Stating that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective police stations besides initiating further investigation into the case, Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement appealed people not to indulge in any kind of illegal mining activities from any Nallah/River, as it is the violation of Government rules and also warned that people found indulging in illegal mining activities shall be dealt as per law.
