5 drug peddlers arrested across Kashmir, Contraband substances also recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has arrested five drug peddlers in Anantnag, Baramulla and Sopore areas of South and North Kashmir respectively and also recovered contraband substances alongwith cash from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Anantnag a police party from Police Station Bijbehara laid down a naka at Jablipora Bijbehara and apprehended one Mohd Shafi Dar S/o Gh Mohd Dar R/o Tulkhan Bijbehara and also recovered about 780 grams of Charas Powder and a cash amount of Rs 37,740/- from his possession. Police in its statement further said that another police party from Police Post Sangam during naka checking at Panchpora Astan Pora crossing intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK03A-7906 and during checking recovered about 7Kgs of Poppy Straw like substance from the said vehicle, adding therein that the driver of the vehicle identified as Shakir Ahmad Ganie S/o Gulzar Ahmad Ganie R/o T.M Shah Bijbehara was arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized.
Stating that in a similar action in Baramulla also a police party led by SHO Police Station Kreeri at a checkpoint established at Kreeri Baramulla intercepted two suspects identified as Suhail Ahmad Bhat S/o Hilal Ahmad R/o Vizer Wagoora and Mohd Ashraf Khan S/o Mohd Yousuf R/o Frasthar , Police in its statement further said that during search, 35 grams of Charas like substances and cash amount of Rs 5K was recovered from the possession of the said accused.
Police in its statement furthermore said that in Sopore also, a police party of Police Post Fruit Mandi headed by IC PP Fruit Mandi under the supervision of SDPO Sopore Sarfaraz Bashir and SHO Police Station Sopore at a checkpoint established at Vijbal apprehended one Aamir Rasool Gojree S/o Ghulam Rasool Gojree R/o Syed Kareem Baramulla and recovered 10 grams of heroin like substance from the possession of the said accused.

Stating that cases were registered under relevant sections of law and accused were shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody, Police in the concluding para of its above statement appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society and reiterated its commitment to take tough actions against the criminals as per law.
