Shopian : In a proactive move towards waste management and environmental sustainability, Block Development Office (BDO), Kanjiullar in south Kashmir’s district Shopian organised an auction on Monday for plastic collected over the past 10 days under Swachhata Bank initiative at Government Higher Secondary School, Kanjiullar.
The auction of the plastic was held under the guidance of BDO Kanjiullar. The event highlighted the collective efforts of the community in addressing plastic pollution.
The auction, held as part of a program involving students from Government Higher Secondary School Kanjiullar, commenced with bids starting at RS 4 per kilogram. The highest bid, reaching RS 10, marked the culmination of the auction. The successful bidder, local firm “Green Guardians” Kanjiullar, emerged as a proactive stakeholder in local environmental initiatives.
The auction was held successfully in the presence of IEC State Consultant SBM-G J&K, along with RDD field officials, school administration, and members of civil society. The collaborative effort and active participation of these individuals have significantly contributed to the success of this event.
Swachhata Bank initiative was launched by the Directorate of Rural Sanitation J&K in the month of March. Several districts already have these Banks functional. However, Swachhata Bank at Block Kanjiullar in district Shopian becomes the first to sell the Plastic deposited in the Bank.
Furthermore, Government Higher Secondary School Kanjiullar students were actively engaged as Brand Ambassadors, tasked with spreading awareness and sensitization campaigns aimed at promoting responsible plastic management practices among the public.
