Srinagar : Police on Monday said that it has arrested six drug peddlers in Awantipora, Baramulla and Kulgam districts and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Awantipora a police party of Police Post Toll Plaza while performing Naka checking near Toll Plaza Awantipora intercepted an Auto Rickshaw bearing registration number JK01L-6792 driven by one Waseem Ahmad Makroo S/o Ab Rashid Makroo R/o Bemina Srinagar and during search recovered 20 grams of Charas like substance from his possession.
Police in its statement further said that in a similar action a Police party of Police Post Toll Plaza during naka checking near Kaigam crossing on Srinagar-Jammu highway intercepted an Auto Rickshaw bearing registration number JK01AL-1324 with one person identified as Aadil Ahmad S/o Mohammad Rafiq Shiekh R/o Natipora Srinagar on board and during search recovered 36 grams of Charas like substance from his possession.
Stating that in Baramulla also, a police party of Police Station Uri headed by SHO Police Station Uri at a checkpoint established at Choolan Uri intercepted two suspects identified as Shabir Ahmad Najar S/o Imam Din Najar and Naseem Ahmad Khan S/o Nawab Khan both residents of Gingle Uri , Police in its statement said that during search recovered 3.8 Kgs of Cannabis Powder and 20 grams of Charas like substances were recovered from the possession of the said accused.
Police in its statement furthermore said that in Kulgam also, a Police party led by SHO Police Station DH Pora during naka checking at Kounserbal Crossing intercepted one Mukhtar Ahmad Malik S/o Abdul Khaliq Malik R/o Nagam and during search recovered 800 grams of Charas powder and 130 grams of Charas like substance filled in polythene bag from his possession, adding therein that a police party of Police Station Behibagh at a checkpoint established at Alamgunj crossing intercepted a suspect Aakash Bashir S/o Bashir Ahmad Mochi R/o Munnad and during search recovered 500 grams of Charas powder like substance filled in nylon bag from his possession.
Stating that all the six accused drug peddlers have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody and the vehicles (Auto Rickshaws) used in the commission of crime were also seized, Police in its statement further said that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective police stations besides initiating further investigations into the cases.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law
