“Instead of evading public criticism merely by saying “ Victory and Defeat are parts of life in politics” the defeated leaders including former Chief Ministers, heads of several parties and Ex MLAs should introspect and muster the courage to reach out to the people at the grass roots”
The stunning defeat to two former Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti and vote against most of former MLAs and MLCs after their defection to other parties in the post Article 370 abrogation scenario shows zeo tolerance of the people against bed room politics propagated by almost all former Chief Ministers and heads of several new and old political parties. Instead of evading public criticism merely by saying “ Victory and Defeat are parts of life in politics” the defeated leaders including former Chief Ministers, heads of several parties and Ex MLAs should introspect and muster the courage to reach out to the people at the grass roots instead of using their constituency incharges for mobilising electoral support in election times. Interestingly almost all former ministers and former legislators have badly lost in their home constituencies in the just concluded Lok Sabha elections only for the fault of compromising the public mandate and defecting to other parties. While the two former Chief Ministers badly lost in Baramulla and Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha constituencies obviously for the fault of seeking public mandate for one narrative in election times and using it for different narrative for their own political conveniences in post election times in the pre-Article 370 abrogation times, the former ministers and former legislators have badly lost in their home constituencies only for the fault of defecting to other parties for their own political conveniences again and again as otherwise they had won not only once but twice or even thrice with convincing margins from such assembly segments in pre Article 370 abrogation scenario.
“Political wisdom demands that winners of the 2024 J&K Lok Sabha Election read the writing on wall and tend to perform better instead of misusing the public mandate and defecting to other parties for their own political conveniences on one pretext or other. In the changing scenario of political accountability and performance based politics the institutions of public representation including not only J&K assembly but even panchayats and assembly would undergo a lot of transformation hereafter hopefully for a better future of the coming generations.”
In view of the current trends of the electorate even the panchayat members and representatives of dissolved municipal bodies having the bad track record of defecting from party to party during last three years may also lose next elections. Leaders who have won in just concluded Lok Sabha instead of taking sadistic pleasure in the defeat of the likes of Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti also need to take lessons from their debacle and defeat of former legislators and former ministers in their home constituencies represented by them even twice and thrice in the past. The message across Kashmir has gone loud and clears that political heavy weights particularly former Chief Ministers, former Ministers and former Legislators can’t take voters for a ride. Political wisdom demands that winners of the 2024 J&K Lok Sabha Election read the writing on wall and tend to perform better instead of misusing the public mandate and defecting to other parties for their own political conveniences on one pretext or other. In the changing scenario of political accountability and performance based politics the institutions of public representation including not only J&K assembly but even panchayats and assembly would undergo a lot of transformation hereafter hopefully for a better future of the coming generations.
