Srinagar : The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Friday celebrated the 10th International Day of Yoga with great enthusiasm on the campus.
Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. A RavinderNath, attended the Yoga session led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) on the banks of Dal Lake in Srinagar.
In his message, Director NIT Srinagar said that yoga is a vital practice for enhancing physical health, mental clarity, and emotional stability. He emphasized the importance of integrating yoga into daily routines to promote overall well-being and reduce stress.
Prof. A RavinderNath also encouraged everyone to embrace yoga as a lifelong practice to maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and staff, who performed various yoga asanas with zeal and zest at Common Hall from 7.30 am to 8:30 AM.
The session was held under the supervision of Registrar NIT Srinagar, Prof. AtikurRehman, Dean Planning & Development Dr. Yashwant Mehta and other dignitaries. The event commenced with an introduction to the significance of International Yoga Day, highlighting the benefits of yoga for physical and mental well-being. A certified yoga instructor Abhishek Gaur and SmtSanjuYadav guided the participants through a series of yoga postures, breathing exercises, and meditation techniques.
In his key message, Prof. Rehman said that there is a need for incorporating yoga into daily routines to promote a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
“Yoga not only enhances our physical health but also fosters mental clarity and inner peace, which are essential in our fast-paced world,” he said.
The session was also attended by NCC Female Wing officer Lt. Dr. Nitika Kundan, Guest House in-charge Dr. Vijay Kumar, Dr. H S Pali, Dr. Jitendra Gurjar and other staff members. Students, NCC/NSS Cadets, PhD scholars from various branches also joined the vibrant session.
Regular yoga sessions are conducted every morning except Sundays in the common hall of the institute on a daily basis.
On Thursday, NIT Srinagar hosted a live broadcast of the Sashakt Yuva& Samruddh Jammu and Kashmir at Common Hall of the Institute, presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The event was attended by faculty members, students, and research scholars of the Institute.
Meanwhile, Director of NIT Srinagar, Prof. A Ravinder Nath, attended the event in person at SKICC along with other dignitaries of the Union Territory.
The International Yoga Day 2024 theme is “Yoga for Self and Society.” This subject emphasises the double benefits of yoga practice: enhancing personal well-being and improving society at large. The theme recognises that inner serenity and self-care are the cornerstones of a happy and healthy existence. Yoga gives practitioners the skills to control their emotions, reduce stress, and develop self-awareness. The idea of Yoga Day was first proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 27, 2014, during his speech at the UN General Assembly. The date of June 21 was chosen as it is the Summer Solstice, the day where there is the most sun out of every other day of the year.
