Reasi: The annual 3 days Baba AgharJittoMela was inaugurated on Friday by Deputy Commissioner Reasi, VisheshMahajan, in the village of AgharJitto, located in the Reasi district. This event, deeply rooted in the local customs and folklore, promises to be a spectacular showcase of the region’s rich cultural tapestry.
A highlight of the Mela is the array of departmental stalls set up by various departments, including Health, Fisheries, Agriculture, Sheep Husbandry, Sericulture, Self Help Groups and others. These stalls present an overview of both Central and J&K schemes, providing attendees with detailed information and the opportunity to take advantage of these initiatives. The Deputy Commissioner personally inspected all the stalls to ensure their effective presentation.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, a cultural program was performed by the students and local artists from Palthyar Nehru Youth Club Garhi, including a compelling play depicting the life of Baba Jitto. The performances were well-received and added a dynamic element to the event, celebrating the local talent and cultural narratives.
People from all walks of life participated in the Mela, contributing to its vibrant and inclusive spirit.
Deputy Commissioner highlighted the significance of the mela in preserving and promoting the unique cultural heritage of the area. He remarked, “The Baba AgharJittoMela is a testament to our rich cultural heritage and a celebration of our traditions and folklore. It is an opportunity for the community to come together, celebrate our shared history and pass down these traditions to future generations.”
