NIT Srinagar launches 15-day Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 campaign

Srinagar | : The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar on Wednesday launched Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2025 campaign, aligning with the nationwide cleanliness initiative inspired by Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB).  The inauguration took place near the Main Building fountain and was attended by key figures including In-Charge Director Prof. Roohi Naaz and other prominent faculty members.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, staff, and volunteers from NSS and NCC. A significant aspect of the event was the Swachhata Pledge, where participants committed to dedicating 100 hours annually to cleanliness activities, promoting cleanliness in their surroundings, and encouraging others to join the initiative. Prof. Roohi Naaz emphasized that cleanliness reflects a commitment to nation-building and highlighted the transformative power of youth in driving societal change. Registrar Prof. Atikur Rahman noted the importance of educational institutions in fostering civic responsibility, while Dean of Students Welfare Prof. Mohammad Abid Bazaz described SHS 2025 as a platform for student engagement and leadership in community service. Dean of Alumni and International Affairs Prof. M.A. Shah stressed that cleanliness encompasses more than waste removal; it involves cultivating healthy habits and community values. Dr. Ashok Kumar, the Nodal Officer for SHS 2025, outlined the campaign’s practical objectives, aiming to convert awareness into actionable efforts that enhance the culture of cleanliness and responsibility. He also linked the initiative to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, promoting active citizenship and community involvement. The campaign, spearheaded by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation and the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, focuses on revitalizing neglected public spaces. Running from September 17 to October 2, the initiative encourages participants to clean up various areas and reduce plastic waste, contributing to a greener festive season. Throughout the 15-day campaign, NIT Srinagar will host multiple activities, including cleanup drives and awareness sessions on waste segregation and sustainable practices.
