Srinagar : In response to severe flooding and waterlogging in Srinagar, J&K Police, in collaboration with the SDRF and River Police, has implemented a comprehensive evacuation and relocation plan to protect affected citizens.
Police teams from various stations have been deployed to vulnerable areas, successfully evacuating nearly 200 families and individuals from the most impacted regions. Notably, 24 families were rescued from Peerzo Island and Basantbagh, while 39 families were relocated from areas such as Bonyarbal and S.R. Gunj. Additional evacuations included 20 families from multiple neighborhoods and 63 individuals from various bunds and vulnerable locations. Beyond evacuation efforts, J&K Police has taken proactive measures to identify and address potential breaches in embankments, thereby mitigating the risk of further flooding. Contingency teams and Quick Response Teams (QRTs) have been established across the district to assist stranded citizens, manage traffic in congested areas, and ensure timely rescue operations for vulnerable families. The police urge citizens to refrain from unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall and to report incidents like waterlogging or fallen trees to the nearest police station or control room. They emphasize the importance of cooperation with emergency services and adherence to official advisories. Meanwhile Police in a statement issued here on Thursday appealed people to utilize dedicated helplines and official contact numbers for assistance.
