PDF Chief seeks relief package for flood-hit J&K, Demands urgent assessment, compensation & rehab measures, Assessment In Kashmir as done in Jammu
Srinagar : Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen, President Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Front (PDF), has expressed profound sorrow over the extensive damage caused by recent floods in the region.
In a statement issued here on Thursday Hakeem highlighted the severe impact on the local population, including loss of life, destruction of homes, and significant harm to agricultural and horticultural sectors. Yaseen described the situation as alarming, with vast areas affected, crops destroyed, and numerous houses collapsed. He criticized the government for its inadequate response, accusing officials of prioritizing public relations over effective action. Yaseen condemned the “publicity-driven tours” of ministers, urging the administration to focus on providing real assistance rather than engaging in symbolic gestures. He emphasized the need for immediate, practical measures to support those affected by the floods. Yaseen called for a comprehensive relief package from the central government to address the widespread devastation. He urged for prompt damage assessments and timely compensation for affected families, particularly those who have lost loved ones. He also pointed out the heavy losses in the horticulture sector, especially the damage to apple orchards, which are vital to Kashmir’s economy. He requested that the Horticulture Department conduct on-site assessments to ensure orchardists receive appropriate compensation. Furthermore, Yaseen appealed to the Ministry of Home Affairs to send a special team to Jammu and Kashmir for a thorough evaluation of the flood damage. He stressed the importance of transparent assessments by central authorities to facilitate effective rehabilitation and rebuilding efforts. Yaseen underscored the urgent need for decisive government action, prioritizing immediate relief and restoration for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
