Says “Party will continue to push for restoration of statehood, other constitutional guarantees democratically peacefully”
Srinagar : Dr. Farooq Abdullah, President of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference on Tuesday met a delegation from Anantnag West, led by MLA Abdul Majeed Bhat Larmi. The delegation discussed various organizational issues, ongoing public outreach initiatives, and expressed concerns about the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
During the meeting, Dr. Farooq emphasized that New Delhi would eventually regret its decisions regarding Jammu and Kashmir, criticizing the central government’s security-centric approach that has hindered trust-building with the local population. He highlighted the significant participation of Jammu and Kashmir residents in the upcoming 2024 Assembly elections as a testament to their faith in the Indian Constitution and democratic processes. However, he lamented the government’s failure to restore statehood, a promise that remains unfulfilled. Dr. Farooq pointed out that the unilateral decisions made in August 2019 were intended to integrate Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of India, yet the reality has been one of exclusion and diminished status. He argued that the delay in restoring statehood undermines public trust in the democratic system and called for New Delhi to fulfill its commitments to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. In conclusion, Dr. Farooq reiterated the National Conference’s commitment to advocating for the rights and welfare of the people, emphasizing the need for a peaceful and democratic push for the restoration of statehood and other constitutional guarantees. He urged New Delhi to honor its promises, framing the issue as one of justice and equality rather than mere politics.
