Kathua: A Dogri cultural programme was held on Tuesday at Government High School Chunera in the Basohli Assembly Constituency as part of the Election Commission of India’s flagship initiative, the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP).
The event aimed to inspire and engage young voters, particularly first-time voters, encouraging them to participate in large numbers in the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled on October 1, 2024.
The event featured an interactive session with the school Headmaster Narinder Kumar and AC Nodal Officer SVEEP Dr. Roshan Lal. They interacted with the students and faculty members besides ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, prominent panchayat representatives, and Booth Level Officers from nearby polling stations.
Dr. Roshan Lal urged voters to come out in large numbers on October 1, 2024, and vote responsibly. He explained the process for new voter registration, correcting details for existing voters, and removing names of shifted or deceased family members from the electoral roll. He also encouraged voters to use the Voters Helpline Number 1950 and the Voter Helpline App to access information about the candidates and the political parties they represent, allowing them to make informed decisions before casting their votes.
The programme emphasized the importance of universal participation in the electoral process, highlighting that each eligible citizen must register as a voter and cast their vote in an informed and ethical manner in every election to fulfill SVEEP’s vision of enlightened and widespread electoral participation.
The programme was conducted under the supervision of Returning Officer (RO) Basohli, Anil Kumar Thakur, and ARO, Vishwakarma Sagar.
The event concluded with a pledge-taking ceremony, led by Rakesh Sharma, a teacher at the school, where all participants committed to participating responsibly in the electoral process.
