Srinagar: Chairman Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Front ( J&K PDF) and former Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen has expressed concern over the acute scarcity of ration due to 60 percent curtailment in the monthly ration quota of the consumers in Jammu and Kashmir. He has also urged the government to immediately restore previous ration quota @ 20 kg per soul so that consumers are not forced to purchase their ration needs in the black market.
In a statement issued on Monday ,Hakeem while expressing serious concern over the prevailing ration crisis in nook and corner of J & K ,has urged the government to provide ration to all the consumers both APL and BPL as per the previous quota of 20 kg per soul instead of only 5 kgs of rice per head per month. He said it was most ridiculous , as to how just 5 kg of rice per soul per month could suffice the monthly requirement of a consumer .
Saying that J&K was predominantly a rice consuming zone , PDF chairman has demanded to enhance monthly ration quota of the consumers from existing 5 kgs per soul per month to previous 20 kg per soul per month quota without further delay . He said consumers especially labour class and farming community were not in a position to purchase rice from black market at exhorbitant rates , given thier distressed financial conditions. He has also urged the food supplies and consumers affairs department to make the ration distribution system easy adding that Biometric system at ration depos has put consumers to unnecessary inconvenience .
Hakeem has appealed Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to restore previous ration quota of 20 kg per soul per month and make ration distribution system easier for convenience of the consumers. He said never ever throughout the country , the ration distribution system was so cumbersome as it has been made in Jammu and Kashmir . He has also urged for intensifying market checking to check sky rocketting prices of essential commodities and black marketing .
Hakeem has also urged the Government to properly secrutinise the PMAY lists properly so that only genuine families get shelter under the “ Housing for all ” scheme. Hakeem also alleged that Government has failed to improve power supply position in Kashmir, adding therein that frequent and unscheduled power cuts have made life of the people very miserable.
