Restoring autonomy essential for peace, prosperity, overall development in JK: Dr. Kamal

Srinagar:J ammu and Kashmir National Conference on Sunday said that there can be no redemption in the situation in JK unless the dignity of the people of J&K is restored, saying trusting the local populace with democracy, Statehood and basic fundamental rights can go a long way in assuaging the situation in JK.

While rescinding the status of J&K unilaterally and undemocratically, it was claimed that the measures will manifestly increase employment prospects for the local youth but the reality on ground is completely different, said party’s additional general secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal while expressing concern over the increasing administrative inertia, unaccountability and development deficit in Jammu and Kashmir. Kamal said the appalling situation J&K is reeling under is the direct consequence of the measures which were taken unilaterally by ruling dispensation on 5th of August 2019.

While expressing concern over the plight of people, Kamal said, “The absence of democracy and long spell of bureaucratic rule has obstructed the development prospectus in the entire region. The bureaucrats have no skin in the administration and are not subjected to the public wrath in wake of not rising up to the people’s expectations. The airdropped coterie of officials at the helm of power in JK seems to care little about the issues concerning the people,” he said.

“It was claimed by the BJP that the abrogation of the Articles will iron out all issues and put the region back on the track of development and prosperity but in reality, the region has been plunged into an abyss of chaos and uncertainty. The local administration has become slack and is not living up to its obligations. The youth have particularly been at the receiving end of all this, the poor educated unemployed lot find itself at cross roads,” he said.

“Forget about development and creating new employment opportunities, thousands of daily-wagers, casual labourers, scheme workers and others have been denied wages for months together. The number of the local civil servants in the local civil administration has also seen a sharp decline since then,” he added.(KNS)
