Srinagar:Hundreds of students, scholars, teachers and other respectable persons of the society today attended the mega-conference titled “Our Times, Our Challenges: Education and Environment” organised by Moral Education, Environment & Relief Council of Private Schools’ Association of Jammu and Kashmir (PSAJK) at Convocation complex in Kashmir University.
The main attraction of the event was the inspiring speeches by Dr Mahmood Chandia from University of Central Lancashire, UK and Muhammad Aadam from Bolton UK. The speakers discussed the two main challenges facing the society one being the lacunae in the education sector and another being the destruction of the environment.
Dr Chandia called on the people to refrain from using products like polythene which end up harming the environment. He described how the conservation of the environment is important for the wellbeing of an individual as well as society. The speakers discussed how religion also stresses on the preservation of flora and fauna.
The speakers also expressed concern on the degradation of moral values among the younger generation. They called for the strengthening of character among students for which one should also incorporate the beautiful teachings of the religion and incorporate the best international practices of teaching.
The conference was attended by Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University Prof Talat Ahmad and Vice Chancellor of Central University of Kashmir Prof Mehraj Ud Din Mir.
Prof Mehraj praised PSAJK for organising such a conference on this important issue. He said that deliberating on these vital issues is the need of the hour. He called for framing education of children right from early years in such a way that he or she turns into an ideal person. He said that if we focus on the early years, only then a solid change will be visible in the coming years.
Prof Talat also expressed his views and suggestions on how to improve our education sector and conserve the environment. The vice-chancellors stressed on the sustainable living where both humans and environment are in win-win situation.
The conference was part of the initiatives taken by Moral Education, Environment and Relief Council (MEERC) under the aegis of PSAJK. President PSAJK G N VAR and Chairman MEERC, Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo were also present on the occasion and thanked the dignitaries for making the conference a huge success.
