Srinagar, Jun 28: Kashmir Medical College and Hospital (KMCH), Sempora, on Sunday organized the Pulse Polio Immunization Drive and conducted an outreach campaign in nearby areas to ensure every child under five years of age receives the life-saving polio vaccine.

People from different areas of Sempora brought their children to the KMCH campus to administer polio drops as part of the Pulse Polio Immunization Drive. The initiative aimed to strengthen community awareness, encourage parents to complete their children’s immunization, and reaffirm the commitment to keeping India polio-free.

In her message, Executive Director KMCH, Insha Qazi, said that preventive healthcare remains one of the hospital’s top priorities and that initiatives such as the Pulse Polio campaign reflect KMCH’s commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of children.

She said the institution is dedicated not only to providing quality medical care but also to actively participating in national public health programmes aimed at preventing vaccine-preventable diseases.

Qazi appreciated the dedication of the doctors, nursing staff, paramedics, and the Department of Community Medicine for successfully conducting the immunization drive and outreach campaign.

She urged parents to cooperate with healthcare workers and ensure that every eligible child receives the polio vaccine on time, emphasizing that sustained community participation is essential to preserving India’s hard-earned polio-free status.

Doctors from the Department of Community Medicine, along with nurses and other supporting staff, remained on their toes throughout the day to ensure the successful conduct of the Pulse Polio immunization drive.

The teams also carried out outreach visits to nearby communities, administering polio drops to eligible children and spreading awareness about the importance of vaccination.

Prof. Nazir Ahmad Khan, Principal, Kashmir Medical College and Hospital (KMCH), said: “We are observing Pulse Polio Day to keep India free from polio and ensure that every eligible child is immunized. I urge everyone to become part of this collective effort and support the campaign wholeheartedly.”

He said that the threat of the virus remains, as it can be imported from polio-endemic regions at any time. Therefore, we must remain vigilant and ensure that no child is left unvaccinated.

“This is not only our duty but also our moral responsibility to protect every child from this preventable disease,” he said.

Notably, recently the KMCH Sempora commenced comprehensive immunization services under the Government of India’s Universal Immunization Programme (UIP), marking an important step towards strengthening preventive healthcare services for the community.
