Target of planting over 18 lakh trees, execution of 9,339 roof water harvesting works set

Kishtwar: District Development Commissioner (DDC), Angrez Singh Rana Thursday finalized the Action plan under Jal Shakti Abhiyan and discussed the modalities for its efficient execution/implementation here at a meeting of concerned District Officers.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Pawan Kumar Parihar, PM IWMP, Kishore Singh DFO Kishtwar, B.D Thakur, DFO Marwah, Vijay Kumar, CHO Kishtwar, S. K Gupta besides concerned district officers attended the meeting.
Under the Action Plan, 5 schemes of Horticulture sector, were proposed under Water Harvesting /pond under CSS-MIDH/PMKSY scheme, while a target was set to cover 138 hectare area by planting 27, 750 trees under plantation( Area Expansion) in the district.
The Forest Department will execute 10, 883 cubic metre work under water conservation and rain water harvesting besides it renovate one each traditional water body, borewell structure under watershed development program.
Similarly, a target was set to plant 17.97 lakh trees in the district under intensive afforestation (including raising of plants in nursery and plantation) program.
The IWMP Kishtwar will execute 240 works like Diversion of drains, construction of new Water Harvesting/storage Tanks, Bowlies, Ponds, Springs, Water Storage Tanks under Water conservation activities.
RDD department is already taking up a total number of 9684 works including 9339 works of roof water harvesting and renovation of 345 number of traditional water bodies under different schemes of Water conservation during this financial year, the meeting was informed.
Meanwhile, the discussions were held on the five critical areas of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan which include water conservation and rain water harvesting, renovation of traditional and other water bodies, reuse of water and recharging of structures, watershed development and intensive afforestation.
RDD Department was directed to ensure proper maintenance, repair and rejuvenation of traditional water bodies so that ground water could be recharged besides deptt was asked to explore the possibilities for roof top rain water harvesting in the district.
DFO Marwah and Kishtwar were directed to plant trees in government schools and other institutions.
The DDC further directed the concerned officers to go for mass mobilization of Panchs and Sarpanchs, NGOs, SHGs, Youth groups (NSS/NYK/NCC), college and school students and hold awareness and community education activities about water conservation.
