Srinagar : The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Wednesday this week, October 21, 2026, solemnly observed Police Commemoration Day at Group Centre (GC), Humhama, Srinagar, paying heartfelt tributes to the brave personnel who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty while safeguarding the nation.

Police Commemoration Day traces back to October 21, 1959, when ten valiant CRPF personnel laid down their lives during an ambush by heavily armed Chinese troops at Hot Springs, Ladakh. The day is observed annually across the country to commemorate these martyrs alongside all police personnel nationwide who have attained martyrdom in the line of duty.

The commemorative ceremony at GC Humhama was presided over by Rajesh Kumar, Special Director General (SDG), J&K Zone, CRPF. The event was attended by Pawan Kumar Sharma, IG, Srinagar Sector, DIGs Vivek Bhandral, Praveen Kumar Singh, Sh. Harvinder Singh Kales, and Smt. Swapna G. Meshram, alongside senior officers and personnel of the Force.

The solemn proceedings commenced with SDG Rajesh Kumar laying a wreath at the Martyrs’ Memorial. Presenting a poignant homage, the SDG read out the names of all 154 police personnel across the country who attained martyrdom during the year 2026, honoring their selfless service. Addressing the gathering, the SDG highlighted the significance of the day and paid rich tributes to the unwavering commitment and valour of the fallen heroes.

The ceremony featured a ceremonial ‘Salami Shastra’ at the Quarter Guard, underscoring the Force’s deep respect for its martyrs and its enduring traditions of discipline and honor. The observance concluded with personnel taking a renewed pledge to uphold the highest traditions of the CRPF and serve the nation with courage, integrity, and dedication.

Commemorative roll calls and memorial gatherings were simultaneously organized across all CRPF units and formations nationwide. In New Delhi, the Union Home Minister also addressed a gathering at the National Police Memorial, acknowledging the monumental sacrifices of police forces in safeguarding the country’s borders, sovereignty, and internal security.
