Srinagar : In a major milestone for automobile logistics in the region, the Jammu Division of Northern Railway received its first-ever rake of Mahindra vehicles at the Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal (GSCT) in Samba.
Transported all the way from Chinchwad in Maharashtra across a distance of roughly 1,992 km, the consignment delivered 108 Scorpio SUVs housed within 27 specialized BCACBM auto-carrier wagons. Terminal operator ACTL Samba Pvt. Ltd. facilitated the arrival, marking the first reported rail transportation of Mahindra vehicles into Jammu and Kashmir—a strategic shift following the successful October 2025 movement of 116 Maruti Suzuki cars to Anantnag.
Railway authorities said that shifting automobile transport to rail promises to sharply reduce logistics costs, ease heavy highway congestion, and accelerate vehicle deliveries to dealerships throughout the Union Territory. Under the PM Gati Shakti initiative, these dedicated cargo hubs aim to streamline freight handling and build long-term logistics efficiency. Celebrating the breakthrough, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu, Uchit Singhal, said the arrival of the Mahindra rake was a significant development for automobile freight traffic in the division.
