Illicit timber seized in G’bal; Accused arrested: Police

Srinagar : Police on Thursday seized a consignment of illicit Timber along with a Load Carrier and arrested the accused involved in the commission of crime.

In a statement issued here on Thursday Police said that during a routine naka checking near Wussan, a police team from Police Station Ganderbal intercepted a load carrier bearing registration no JK16B-4440. Upon inspection, the vehicle was found to be carrying eight logs of illegally felled Kail timber. The driver fled the scene upon noticing the police, abandoning the vehicle. A thorough search revealed that the timber was being transported without any valid permits or legal documentation. Both the vehicle and the timber was seized. A case under FIR No. 04/2026, has been registered under Section 303 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 26 of the Forest Act at Police Station Ganderbal. Following this incident, a Special Police Team was formed under the direction of SSP Ganderbal, Khalil Ahmad Poswal. After extensive efforts, the accused, Irshad Ahmad Dar S/O Mohd Qasim Dar from Nilahnajwan, Kangan, was apprehended. In its statement Police said that it will continue to take strict actions agains
