Rajouri: The Centre for Biodiversity Studies, Department of Environmental Sciences, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri commemorated World Intellectual Property Day 2025 with great enthusiasm and academic spirit. The theme for this year, “IP and Music: Feel the Beat of IP,” emphasized the critical role of intellectual property (IP) in nurturing the music industry and protecting the creativity of artists and music creators.
Prof. Jawaid Iqbal, Vice Chancellor, BGSBU, applauded the Centre for Biodiversity Studies for taking the lead in organizing such a significant event. He underlined the importance of World Intellectual Property Day, observed every year on April 26 since 1970, in raising awareness about the influence of patents, copyrights, trademarks, and designs in everyday life. Prof. Iqbal emphasized the role of IP rights in promoting innovation and creativity and highlighted the potential of youth to offer innovative solutions for a sustainable future.
Prof. M.J. Warsi, Dean Academic Affairs, in his message, emphasized the need to expand the influence of IP protection globally. He stressed the importance of promoting laws and regulations related to intellectual property to raise public legal awareness and encourage inventive and innovative activities.
Dr. Shreekar Pant, Director (I/c), Centre for Biodiversity Studies, reflected on the relevance of this year’s theme, particularly in celebrating youth-led creativity in the music industry. He remarked that IP rights are instrumental in helping young innovators transform their ideas into tangible outcomes, generate income, and make a positive societal impact.
On the occasion, Dr. Mamta, Coordinator, Environmental Sciences, delivered a keynote talk focusing on the significance of April 26 as a day to foster awareness about the crucial role of intellectual property rights in driving innovation and creativity.
The event concluded with the administration of an anti-plagiarism pledge, taken by faculty members, research scholars, and students of the Environmental Sciences department, reinforcing the university’s commitment to academic integrity and ethical research practices.
