G’bal: A delegation of the Ganderbal Press Association (GPA), led by its President Ayaz Sofi, met Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at Dak Bungalow Ganderbal to discuss key issues concerning journalists in the district.
During the meeting, the delegation raised the demand for the allocation of land or a dedicated building for journalists in Ganderbal. President Ayaz Sofi emphasized the necessity of a permanent space to facilitate efficient media operations and promote responsible journalism. Responding to the request, the Chief Minister assured the delegation of his support and pledged to explore possible assistance for the establishment of a media center.
Another crucial issue highlighted by the GPA delegation was the restriction on media coverage during VVIP visits, including those of the Chief Minister, within the district. They expressed concerns over journalists being restrained from covering such events, which hampers their ability to provide the public with accurate and timely information. Acknowledging the concern, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah assured the delegation that such restrictions would not be imposed in the future and that steps would be taken to ensure better media access to official events. The meeting concluded on a positive note, with the Chief Minister recognizing the vital role of the media in a democratic society and assuring his full cooperation in addressing the concerns of journalists in Ganderbal.
