Srinagar : The Cyber Cell of J&K Police in Ganderbal on Tuesday successfully accounted for Rs. 17 lakhs in financial frauds and recovered smartphones worth Rs. 16 lakhs within just nine months of its operation.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that since its establishment in March 2024, the Cyber Cell Ganderbal has recovered a total of 87 mobile phones valued at Rs. 16 lakhs, which were either lost or stolen. Of these, 74 phones have already been returned to their rightful owners. Today, the remaining 13 mobile phones, were handed over to the rightful owners during a special ceremony.
Besides the recovery of mobile phones, the Cyber Cell has made significant strides in addressing financial fraud cases. A total of Rs. 17 lakhs in fraudulent transactions have been accounted for, with Rs. 3,78,527 already credited back to the victims’ accounts.
Moreover, over 56 cases related to blackmailing and social media account hacking have been successfully resolved, providing much-needed relief to the victims of these cybercrimes.
The SSP Ganderbal speaking at the event, expressed his full commitment to curbing cybercrimes in the region. He urged the public to come forward with any complaints, assuring them that every case would be treated with utmost sincerity and sensitivity. The SSP Ganderbal also announced the launch of a 24/7 cyber helpline at 9541786772, which will be available to assist the public with any cyber-related issues. The helpline aims to provide immediate support and guidance to individuals facing cyber threats or seeking to report cybercrimes.
