Police observes Thana Diwas across valley

Shopian : Police on Thursday organized ‘Thana Diwas’ functions in various police establishments across valley including district Srinagar, Kupwara, Budgam, Ganderbal and PD Handwara. These meetings were chaired by respective supervisory & jurisdictional Police officers. These meetings were attended by respectable citizens, civil societies of concerned areas, including members of Auqaf Committees, Numberdars, Chowkidars, Traders Federation and Transporters etc.
In these meetings, participants highlighted various issues of public importance. During these events, all the grievances were heard and were segregated on the basis of area of action and jurisdiction. The attendees were assured that all the grievances pertaining to Police department will be dealt as per the law and remaining grievances lying outside the domain of Police department will be taken up with the concerned authorities under laid down procedure.
During these meetings, the cooperation of general public in eradication of drug abuse, social crimes etc were sought. Participants were stressed upon to co-operate with Police in curbing the drug menace and in identifying anti national and anti-social elements who always try to disrupt the peaceful environment.

Police on Thursday observer ‘Thana Diwas’ at various locations, including Police Station Kupwara, Police Station Kralpora, Police Post Khurhama and Police Post Drugmulla, as part of an ongoing initiative to enhance Police-public relations and address their grievances effectively.
At Police Station Kupwara, the event was attended by Addl. SP Kupwara, GM Bhat, who engaged directly with community members from different areas. Participants shared their concerns and suggestions, many of which were addressed on the spot, while actionable points were noted for follow-up. At Police Station Kralpora, Dy SP DAR Kupwara, Syed Mujahid-ul-Haq-, presided over the event. The active public participation shows the public trust in the initiative. He emphasized the J&K Police’s commitment to transparency and public welfare while ensuring attendees’ concerns were heard and acknowledged. At Police Post Khurhama, DySP PC Lolab Raeis Ahmad, led the proceedings, attentively listening to the grievances of local residents. Immediate resolutions were provided where possible, and assurances were given for prompt action on other issues. At Police Post Drugmulla, the event was attended by Dy SP Hqrs Kupwara, Rafee Rather, who interacted with attendees and addressed their concerns, further strengthening police-public trust.
Thana Diwas is conducted periodically across all Police Stations and Police Posts in the district and aims to bridge the gap between the police and the people .

In the 2nd phase for the month of December 2024, the event was organized in (09) Police Stations & (07) Police Posts of the district which includes Police Station Sangam, Police Station Harwan, Police StationRainawari, Police Station Nishat, Police Station Rajbagh, Police Station Women, Police Station Shaheed Gunj, Police Station Masiuma, Police Station Soura, Police Post Pooolice Khimber, Police Post Qamarwari, Police PostBagiyas, Police Post Hazratbal, Police Post Tengpora, Police Post Nehru Park and Police Post Khunmoh.
The meetings were chaired by supervisory officers & jurisdictional police officers and were attended by civil society members including members of Auqaf Committees, members of Traders Federation and Transporters, Panchayti Raj members, Religious Preachers, Mohallah elders etc. During these meetings, participants highlighted various issues of public importance and put forth their grievances which were within the domain of district police viz, illegal narcotics trafficking, sand mafia, traffic issues, floating population etc. some of the issues highlighted pertaining to civil administration like improvement and maintenance of roads, sanitation, public health, electricity etc were also recorded.
Police assured them that genuine grievances pertaining to Police will be resolved on priority and dealt as per law and those pertaining to civil administration will be taken up with the concerned departments for their timely redressal. Participants were urged to co-operate with Police in curbing the drug menace and in identifying anti-national and anti-social elements to maintain peace and order in the society.
