Srinagar: Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested nine drug peddlers in various districts of Kashmir valley and also recovered contraband and psychotropic substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Srinagar, a Police party of Police Station Nowhatta, during routine naka checking at Ganj Baksh Park, apprehended two drug peddlers identified as Khalid Ahmad S/o Mohd Ismail Rather R/o Rashan Ghat, Soura, and Basit Ahmad Dar S/o Bilal Ahmad Dar R/o Usmaniya Colony, Wantpora, Eidgah and during search recovered substantial quantity of contraband substances from their possession.
Stating that in Baramulla district also a Police party of Police Station Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Azadgunj Chowk Baramulla, intercepted one Mubashir Mohi Ud Din Dar S/o Gh Mohi Ud Din R/o Azadgunj, Police in its statement further said that during search, 200 grams of Charas was recovered from the possession of the said accused who was subsequently arrested.
Police in its statement further said that in Bandipora also during naka checking at Papachan bridge, officials of Police station Bandipora apprehended a drug peddler identified as Irshad Ahmad Wani S/o Habibullah Wani R/o Hajin and recovered 47 Bottles of Codeine Phosphate bottles from his possession. Stating that in yet another similar action another drug peddler identified as Ab Rashid Sheikh S/o Sonaullaha Sheikh R/o Arin was arrested during naka checking at Shokbaba Sumlar, Police in its statement further that 40 grams of Charas was recovered from the possession of the said drug peddler.
Police in its statement further said that a police party at a checkpoint established at Check Chandergeer, intercepted a vehicle (Maruti Alto Car) bearing registration No. JK15C-0747 driven by Mohmad Aqib Wani S/o Gh Mohd Wani R/o Hajin and during search recovered 98 bottles of Codeine Phosphate from the possession of the said accused who was arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized.
Stating that in a similar action by Sopore Police, a Police party of Police Post Putkha at a checkpoint established at Trumgund Crossing arrested two drug peddlers identified as Aamir Farooq Dar S/o Farooq Ahmad Dar R/o Ningli Sopore and Javaid Ahmad Gujri @Diya Goor S/o Ghulam Nabi Gujri R/o Jamai Qadeem Sopore and during search recovered 20 grams of Brown Sugar from their possession, Police in its statement further said that in Kupwara also, a police party intercepted a motorcycle bearing Registration No. JK05D-5529, at a checkpoint established at Batergam near Petrol Pump, travelling towards Trehgam, adding therein that the motorcyclest identified as Mohd Anwar Raina S/o Mohd Israiel Raina R/o Amroohi, Karnah, Kupwara tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully. Police in its statement further more said that during search, 14 grams of brown sugar was recovered from the possession of the said accused, adding therein that “preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused was allegedly carrying the contraband substance to promote drug abuse among the youth of Kupwara, posing a serious threat to the well-being of the society”. Stating that the cases were accordingly registered under relevant sections of law at respective police stations besides initiating investigations, Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement appealed people to support it in this vital effort to protect our society.
