“Union Minister Shah slammed Congress for repeatedly jeopardizing the nation’s unity and security in pursuit of power, accusing the party of exposing its ulterior motives by allying with the Abdullah family’s National Conference.”

Days after Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi met with National Conference leaders in Srinagar, signalling a potential Congress-NC alliance for the upcoming Assembly elections taking place after 10 years, Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized the alliance, calling it “unholy, mismatched, and power-hungry.

10 Questions Amit Shah Poses To Rahul Gandhi:-

Union Minister Shah slammed Congress for repeatedly jeopardizing the nation’s unity and security in pursuit of power, accusing the party of exposing its ulterior motives by allying with the Abdullah family’s National Conference.

“Promises made in the National Conference’s manifesto, which Congress has allied itself with, are not only anti-national but also a direct threat to the unity and integrity of India.

Amit Shah emphasized that the people of India are well aware of the “unholy intentions” and “anti-national conspiracies” of Congress and the National Conference, vowing that they will not allow such plans to succeed.

Shah posed ten pointed questions to the Congress party and its leader Rahul Gandhi regarding the promises made in the National Conference’s manifesto.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah posed ten critical questions to Congress regarding its alliance with the National Conference in the upcoming Jammu & Kashmir Assembly elections.

Amit Shah questioned whether Congress supports the National Conference’s promises, including reinstating a separate flag for Jammu and Kashmir, restoring Articles 370 and 35A, engaging in dialogue with Pakistan, and reviving ‘LoC Trade.’

Shah also asked if Congress backs the reinstatement of relatives of those involved in militancy into government jobs, the removal of reservations for marginalized communities, and the renaming of historical sites.

Amit Shah further questioned Congress’s stance on corruption and the politics of discrimination between Jammu and the Valley, concluding with a demand for answers to these ten questions.

Gandhi’s Pledge— Restoring J&K’s Statehood with a ‘Blood Bond’: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reaffirmed his commitment to restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, declaring it a top priority for him and his party.  During his recent visit to Kashmir, Gandhi highlighted his deep, generational connection with the region, describing it as a “blood relationship.”  He criticized the Modi government for not restoring statehood before the elections, which are scheduled for September 18, 25, and October 1, but acknowledged that the announcement of elections is a positive step. Gandhi urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to embrace love over hatred, invoking his Bharat Jodo Yatra slogan: “Nafrat ke bazaar mein, mohabbat ki dukaan khol.”  He emphasized the need for adequate representation for J&K and framed his efforts as a personal mission to address their pain rather than a political statement. He reiterated his and the INDIA bloc’s commitment to restoring statehood and democratic rights to J&K, despite the delay. In his address, Gandhi noted Jammu’s unique culture and history, emphasizing the need to protect it and ensure that local voices are heard in their governance.  He criticized the BJP for centralizing power and argued that Congress seeks to empower the people of J&K to govern their state according to their preferences.  Gandhi framed the upcoming assembly elections as a clash of ideologies between Congress and the RSS, predicting a strong response from the people of J&K against the BJP.

Rahul Proposes, Kharge Endorses: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge echoed Gandhi’s sentiments, describing his relationship with J&K as deeply personal and urging voters to support Congress.  He criticized the BJP for downgrading J&K from statehood to a Union Territory, pointing out that it was the only instance in post-independence India where a state was demoted.

Omar Abdullah Unveils JKNC’s Manifesto For Restoration Of Statehood, Public Rights To J&K: National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah unveiled the party’s poll manifesto, pledging to restore Jammu and Kashmir’s political and legal status if elected to power. Abdullah emphasized that the fight for statehood and autonomy is not just a political agenda but a matter of identity. “We are committed to restoring the political dignity of Jammu and Kashmir and, at the very least, statehood,” he asserted. Abdullah promised that an NC-led government would work tirelessly to reinstate the region’s powers and autonomy. He vowed to remind the Supreme Court of India about the central government’s promise to restore statehood and, if necessary, seek justice through the courts. He also announced that the NC would provide 200 units of free electricity to every household in J&K, highlighting the importance of power, especially during harsh winters. “We are committed to easing the burden on our people,” Abdullah said. Addressing the issue of political prisoners detained after the abrogation of Article 370, Abdullah pledged to work for the release of all political detainees not involved in heinous crimes.  He expressed hope that the people of J&K would grant the NC a mandate to serve them for the next five years, emphasizing the party’s longstanding commitment to fighting for the people’s rights.

“Once elected, parties should focus on fulfilling their key promises, particularly those related to statehood restoration, economic development, and reconciliation efforts. Establish mechanisms to review and implement promises related to political prisoner release, job security, and cultural preservation. Parties experiencing internal dissent, such as the PDP, should address leadership and organizational issues to strengthen their position ahead of the elections. Evaluate the proposed strategies for counter-militancy and law and order, ensuring they align with the needs of J&K’s diverse population. By focusing on these areas, stakeholders can better navigate the political complexities in J&K and work towards effective governance and representation.”

From Statehood To Security—-Apni Party’s Plan To Rebuild J&K’s Identity:  Apni Party released its manifesto for the upcoming assembly elections this week, pledging to advocate for constitutional guarantees that preserve the culture and special identity of Jammu and Kashmir, similar to the protections provided to some northeastern states under Article 371.  The party emphasized its commitment to restoring statehood to the Union Territory, as promised by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on August 5, 2019. The manifesto promises to revisit and restore repealed and amended laws, ensuring constitutional guarantees for land and job security for local youth. Led by former J&K minister Altaf Bukhari, the Apni Party also plans to push for the reinstatement of a bicameral legislature, comprising both a legislative assembly and legislative council, once statehood is restored. On the rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits, the party commits to their dignified return, proposing the formation of an apex committee, chaired by the chief minister and including representatives from all registered Kashmiri Pandit organizations. This committee will meet every six months to address issues faced by the migrant community, with the revenue minister serving as the convener. The manifesto also outlines plans to secure the early release of detainees not involved in heinous crimes, with a focus on those detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA).  Additionally, the Apni Party aims to restore the powers of the cabinet and chief minister, which have recently been transferred to the lieutenant governor by the Centre.

Revolt In PDP Amid Candidate Announcements: Amid discussions between the NC and Congress about a potential alliance, the PDP took the lead in declaring its candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections.  The party announced incharges for 31 constituencies, with 14 being well-known PDP members and 17 newcomers who joined the party after the Election Commission of India announced the elections. Despite internal tensions, the party has seen a silver lining as several former leaders have rejoined in hopes of securing election tickets. However, the announcement of candidates has sparked a significant revolt within the party, leading to the departure of six key members. Among those who left were former Wachi legislator Ajaz Mir, DDC member and spokesperson Dr. Harbaksh Singh and others—all of whom were considered loyal to Mehbooba Mufti, particularly following the August 5, 2019, exodus when 40 top leaders and numerous activists left to form the Apni Party. Despite these setbacks, PDP’s former minister Naeem Akhtar remains hopeful, expressing confidence that the PDP will secure seats and play a crucial role in the new, albeit less powerful, Assembly. “The PDP will be a strong voice for the people in the Assembly, regardless of how many seats we win. The moral leadership of the Assembly will rest with us, whether we’re in government or opposition,” he said. Political analysts suggest that the PDP’s alliance with the BJP after the 2014 Assembly elections, combined with its failure to retain loyal leaders and workers, has left the party in a weakened position in the current political climate.

BJP’s Awaits Approval For ‘J&K Vision Document’: The Jammu & Kashmir unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has finalized its election manifesto, dubbed the ‘Vision Document,’ and submitted it to the party’s central leadership for final approval. The manifesto is set to be officially released in the coming days. The document highlights the abrogation of Article 370 and its positive impacts on Jammu & Kashmir, reinforcing the BJP’s narrative that this move realized Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee’s vision of fully implementing the Indian Constitution in the region. It outlines the BJP’s strategies for future development, countering terrorism, maintaining law and order, and ensuring the security of both the public and security personnel.  Dr. Nirmal Singh, former Deputy Chief Minister and Chairman of the BJP’s Manifesto Drafting Committee told media that central leadership will make the final decision on the manifesto’s release. This document incorporates approximately 4,000 suggestions from J&K residents, reflecting public input in the party’s policy formulation, he said. Meanwhile, the BJP Election Committee held a strategy session on Sunday. Leaders from all 17 organizational districts of the Union Territory participated in the meeting. The committee, including Union Minister and J&K Election Incharge G Krishna Reddy, J&K Affairs Incharge Tarun Chugh, J&K BJP President Ravinder Raina, Core Group members, and strategists from Northern States, aims to refine the party’s approach for the upcoming elections.

Shift In Political Focus: Historically, party manifestos often included promises to engage in talks with Pakistan and separatists. Post Abrogation of 370, this focus has now shifted towards local development, including power infrastructure improvements, economic growth, and community welfare. This change reflects a broader emphasis on internal issues and local governance over external negotiations.

Kashmir Horizon View: Recent political developments in Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) highlight a significant shift in party manifestos ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized the potential Congress-National Conference (NC) alliance, labeling it “unholy” and questioning Congress’s support for NC’s manifesto promises, which he views as a threat to national unity and integrity. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reaffirmed his commitment to restoring J&K’s statehood, emphasizing his deep personal connection to the region and criticizing the Modi government for delaying statehood restoration. He framed the upcoming elections as a pivotal moment for J&K’s representation and governance. National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah unveiled the NC’s manifesto, promising to restore J&K’s political status and provide essential services such as free electricity. Abdullah stressed the importance of statehood and autonomy and pledged to work towards the release of political prisoners. The Apni Party released its manifesto, advocating for constitutional protections to preserve J&K’s culture and identity, with a focus on restoring statehood, revisiting repealed laws, and rehabilitating Kashmiri Pandits. The PDP announced candidates for the Assembly elections but faced internal dissent, with key members departing amid evolving party strategies and candidate selections. The BJP is finalizing its ‘Vision Document,’ highlighting the positive impacts of the abrogation of Article 370 and outlining development and security strategies for J&K. Monitor ongoing discussions between Congress and NC for any formal alliance announcements and evaluate their impact on the electoral landscape. Watch for BJP’s final manifesto release and its potential influence on voter sentiment. Engage with local communities to gauge their responses to the manifestos and promises of different parties. Ensure transparent communication about party positions and proposed policies to the electorate. Once elected, parties should focus on fulfilling their key promises, particularly those related to statehood restoration, economic development, and reconciliation efforts. By focusing on these areas, stakeholders can better navigate the political complexities in J&K and work towards effective governance and representation.
