Preparations for the vote counting process in Jammu and Kashmir have reached their final stages, as officials ensure robust security measures and logistical readiness across the union territory. Scheduled to commence on June 4 at 8 AM, a trial was also conducted to guarantee a seamless process. A senior official from the Chief Electoral Office (CEO) told Kashmir Horizon that comprehensive arrangements are in place, including the establishment of counting halls and secure storage facilities.  “With three centers in Kashmir and two in Jammu, meticulous planning is underway to adhere to Election Commission guidelines and ensure the swift and accurate announcement of results,” he said. Security remains a top priority, with three-tier arrangements implemented to safeguard the integrity of the counting process. In Srinagar, the SKICC-Centaur will host the counting for the parliamentary constituency, with stringent surveillance and restricted access to maintain transparency. The meticulous setup includes video recording of the proceedings and strict control over mobile phone usage within counting rooms. Furthermore, the secure storage of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) under a three-layer cordon adds an extra layer of protection. Similar arrangements are in place across constituencies, with designated centers like Government Degree College, Anantnag, and Degree College Baramulla facilitating the counting process. In Jammu, MAM College and Polytechnic Vikram Chowk are prepared to handle the influx of votes, with over 400 personnel participating in the trial run. To ensure accuracy, trained personnel will adhere to specific dress codes, and each assembly constituency will have dedicated counting tables manned by assistants, supervisors, and micro-supervisors. In Udhampur, 18 halls at Government Degree College (Boys), Kathua, have been allocated for counting, with meticulous planning to accommodate all 18 assembly segments. Logistical arrangements include the transportation of election materials from strong rooms to counting centers, with the trial run commencing at 8 AM. As anticipation mounts among politicians and supporters, representatives will be present at the counting centers, while a significant turnout is expected outside. Despite the competitive atmosphere, some politicians and supporters are taking time to unwind before the results are declared, with visits to tourist destinations. Notably, Jammu and Kashmir witnessed its highest poll participation in 35 years during the General Elections 2024, reflecting the electorate’s engagement across the union territory. Meanwhile comprehensive arrangements for counting votes for the Udhampur-Kathua Parliamentary Constituency. 12 candidates are competing for the Udhampur Parliamentary Constituency.  The vote counting will take place at Government Degree College Kathua, secured with multi-tier security and round-the-clock CCTV surveillance to ensure a free and fair election process.

“With constituencies like Srinagar, Baramulla, Anantnag, Rajouri, Udhampur, and Jammu representing diverse demographics and interests, the outcome of the election holds significant implications for the region’s political landscape. As the countdown to counting day begins, all eyes are on Jammu and Kashmir, poised for the unveiling of electoral verdicts that will shape its future.”

Votes from all 18 assembly segments, including Kathua, Udhampur, Doda, Ramban, and Kishtwar, will be counted in dedicated halls assigned to each Assembly Constituency. Additionally, three halls have been designated for counting votes from the Electronically Transmitted Postal Ballot System (ETPBS).  A total of 225 tables have been set up for the counting process, with three personnel assigned to each table. For ETPBS votes, 60 tables have been designated, each also staffed by three persons. Nearly 10,000 staff members will be involved in the counting process, including the transfer of EVMs from the strong room to the counting halls. In Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Electoral Officer Pandurang K. Pole visited Baramulla in north Kashmir yesterday to conduct a thorough inspection of the Counting Centre and Strong Rooms designated for the Baramulla Parliamentary Constituency. The visit aimed to ensure seamless arrangements for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. During the inspection, the CEO reviewed the facilities and arrangements at the counting centre and strong room to guarantee a smooth and transparent counting process. He also assessed security measures to maintain the integrity and sanctity of the electoral process. The CEO was briefed on the arrangements to ensure a smooth electoral process and informed that the district administration is diligently implementing all necessary measures in compliance with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India. Pole emphasized the critical importance of robust arrangements and strict adherence to electoral protocols set by the Election Commission of India to uphold the sanctity of this democratic process. With constituencies like Srinagar, Baramulla, Anantnag, Rajouri, Udhampur, and Jammu representing diverse demographics and interests, the outcome of the election holds significant implications for the region’s political landscape. As the countdown to counting day begins, all eyes are on Jammu and Kashmir, poised for the unveiling of electoral verdicts that will shape its future.

“The outcome of this election holds significant implications for the region’s political landscape. Moving forward, continued vigilance and enhanced training programs for election personnel will be crucial to handling any challenges that arise. Implementing advanced real-time monitoring systems and maintaining transparent communication with the public will build trust and ensure smooth operations. Political parties should encourage peaceful conduct among supporters and prepare for various outcomes to facilitate a smooth transition. Media outlets must focus on accurate reporting and fact-checking to prevent misinformation, while civil society organizations can play a vital role in monitoring the process and educating voters. The general public’s patience and constructive engagement post-election will be essential in shaping the region’s future political landscape.”
