Anantnag : Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested four drug peddlers in Anantnag and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued on Tuesday police said that a Police party from Police Station Bijbehara intercepted a vehicle (Tavera) bearing registration number DL1CJ-5691 with four persons on board at a checkpoint established at Gadiseer Bijbehara and upon checking recovered 14Kgs of Charas powder and 7 grams of Brown sugar from their possession.
Stating that the accused have been identified as Afrooz Ahmad Malik son of Manzoor Ahmad Malik resident of Jablipora, Shahid Rashid Wagay son of Ab Rashid Wagay resident of Jablipora, Mohd Yousuf Shah Son of Mohd Jabbar Shah Resident of Guree and Bashir Ahmad Dar son of Gh Mohi Ud Din Dar resident of Veeri, Police in it’s statement that the said accused have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Diclosing that the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized,
Police in its statement also said that a case under relevant sections of the law stands registered in Police Station Bijbehara and an investigation has been also initiated.
In the concluding para of its statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with as per law, stating therein further that consistent actions against drug peddlers are taken to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
