Kulgam |  : Police on Monday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Kulgam and also recovered huge quantity of contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued on Monday police said that a Police party of PS Kulgam at a checkpoint established at Laroo intercepted a Load Carrier bearing registration number JK03J-9355 with two persons on board identified as Umer Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Ahmad Dar resident of Butt Tachloo and Aadil Ahmad Makroo son of Abdul Rashid Makroo resident of Rahpora Khudwani, stating therein further that 21Kgs of Poppy Straw were recovered from their possession following which they were arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. “Load Carrier used in the commission of crime has also been seized”, the police statement reads further.
Police also said that in yet another similar action a police party of PS Qazigund at a checkpoint established at Choimulla arrested a suspicious person who tried to flee after noticing police party, stating therein further that the said accused was identified as Abdul Rashid Shah son of Late Abdul Kabir Shah resident of Guchchan Sheikhpora, Shishtergam. Stating that during search, 270gms of Charas were recovered from the possession of the above named accused who was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, police in it’s above quoted statement further more said that cases under relevant sections of law stands were registered in respective police stations and investigation has been initiated.
In the concluding para of it’s above referred statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, stating therein also that consistent actions against drug peddlers are taken as part of efforts made to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
