A copy of the memorandum sent by the President Employees Joint Consultative Committee (EJCC) Aijaz Ahmad Khan to the Lt Governor Grish Chander Memorandum reads “Your esteemed attention is sought towards the fact that Employees Joint Consultative Committee Kashmir (EJCC) is the representative body of more than —– employees and since its onset has been fighting for the genuine and legitimate demands of 60 thousand daily wagers, fair price shop dealers, casual/need base workers, NRHM employees, hamals, contractual drivers working in various departments and several other issues faced by these employees pending disposal for years together”. Saying that “the Employees Joint Consultative Committee Kashmir (EJCC) is in favour of work culture, respect, peace and harmony and does not want any confrontation with the Government, the memorandum reads further “it is the negative/ biased approach of the former Governments / Political setups and wrong policy making of the Government of this unfortunate state of Jammu & Kashmir which is pushing the innocent employees into a state of confrontation with the State Government”. In it’s memorandum the EJCC says “the Association aims at solving of legitimate and genuine demands of these employees without any further delay and intends that under your esteemed leadership immediate and necessary steps be taken for settlement of the demand of regularization of almost 60 thousand daily rated Daily Wagers, Fair Price Shop Dealers, Labors, Casual/Need Base Workers, NRHM Employees, Hamals, Contractual Drivers working in various departments”.
The EJCC memorandum further says “the State of Jammu and Kashmir has been witnessing some hard times be it in September Floods of 2014, Chaos and Tension of 2016 followed by abrogation of Article 370 in the year 2019 and now nearly three months since the Country went into a strict lockdown amid Covid 19, every citizen is slipping into poverty”. The memorandum further says that “the adverse impact on livelihood has led to chronic mental stress of these seasonal and daily rented workers working in different departments since long”, adding that “ It is apt to mention here that recently a causal labor namely Aazad Ahmad Sheikh S/o Gh Mohd Sheikh Maharajpora, Sopore , who was working in the Department of I&FC ended his life in agony when his children asked him for “Eidi” and new cloths on the eve of Eid (the holy festival of Muslims celebrated some months back) and the said workers found himself hopeless to meet out the demand of his children’.
