Broadens its outreach in 8 districts; to train 3000 street food vendors

Srinagar : Nestlé India has collaborated with FDA, Jammu and Kashmir and National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) to expand Project Serve Safe Food in the state. As a part of the project, NASVI will train 1,000 street food vendors in the state across Srinagar, Anantnag, and Baramulla, taking the total number of trained street food vendors past 2,500.

Project ‘Serve Safe Food’ has already benefitted over 1,20,000 street food vendors across 27 states and 4 Union Territories by educating vendors on health, hygiene, safe food handling, waste disposal and entrepreneurship. The training programme equips vendors with the knowledge to improve their food handling practices.

Kunwar Himmat Singh, Head, Corporate Affairs, Sustainability and societal initiatives, Nestlé India said, “At Nestlé India, we strive to elevate food safety standards across the country – going beyond just our own products. Through Project Serve Safe Food, we empower street food vendors with practical training in hygiene and food safety, strengthening both skills and awareness. As we continue to scale the initiative, we are confident it will drive lasting behavioural change while supporting the growth and sustainability of their businesses.”

Nestlé India launched Project Serve Safe Food in 2016 and has trained street food vendors across states including Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
