Srinagar September 24: The Institute of Home Science (IHS), University of Kashmir (KU), inaugurated a Day Care Children’s Park and a certificate-based ‘Bake to Earn’ course for young women at the Main Campus.
It aims at supporting the working campus community and promoting skill development and self-reliance among young women.
Day Care Children’s Park has been designed to provide a safe, child-friendly space for the children of the working campus community, while the ‘Bake to Earn’ course will provide young women with hands-on training in baking and related skills, enabling them to learn, create and earn.
Inaugurating the facilities, Vice-Chancellor, KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, said the initiatives reflect the University’s commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive campus while equipping young women with practical skills and opportunities for economic empowerment.
“A supportive campus must respond to the practical needs of its community while creating meaningful opportunities for skill development. The Children’s Park and ‘Bake to Earn’ course are important steps towards building a more inclusive and empowering University environment,” she said.
Dean Academic Affairs, KU, Prof. Shariefuddin Pirzada, appreciated the initiatives and highlighted the importance of creating a conducive campus environment that supports the well-being and professional responsibilities of the University community.
Dean, School of Applied Sciences & Technology, KU, Prof. Mubashir Masoodi, said the initiatives reflect the practical relevance of Home Science in addressing contemporary social needs and promoting skill-based learning.
Earlier, Director, Institute of Home Science, Prof. Humaira Azim, highlighted the objectives of the two initiatives that will help create a more supportive campus environment for the working community while providing young women with practical, market-oriented skills and opportunities to grow.
The initiatives are part of varsity’s efforts to promote community-oriented learning, practical skills and a supportive campus environment.
