Srinagar: Security forces across Jammu and Kashmir have intensified security arrangement ahead of Independence Day celebrations on August 15. A high-alert state has been established across urban centers, commercial hubs, highways, and sensitive border regions to ensure peaceful national event observances. Meanwhile Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi on Monday chaired a security review meeting at PCR Kashmir to assess the overall security scenario and reviewed preparations for the forthcoming Independence Day celebrations and other events across the Valley.
Reports said that In Srinagar, security personnel have set up checkpoints along major thoroughfares, conducting thorough vehicle inspections and frisking commuters. Similar high-surveillance measures are active across key Kashmir valley districts, including Baramulla, Kupwara, Kulgam, and Anantnag.
In the Jammu region, security presence has been scaled up across Jammu city, Samba, Rajouri, and Poonch, alongside heightened vigilance along the strategic Srinagar-Jammu National Highway to monitor traffic movement.
Border surveillance has been fortified along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border. In North Kashmir, sectors including Uri, Keran, Tangdar, and Gurez are under strict watch, while the Krishna Ghati sector, Poonch, and Kathua areas in Jammu have intensified frontier patrolling.
Authorities stated that these preventive steps are part of standard security protocols and urged commuters to cooperate with checking teams. Security personnel confirmed that the heightened alert will remain active through the national event.
Meanwhile Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi on Monday chaired a security review meeting to assess the overall security scenario and review preparations for the forthcoming Independence Day celebrations and other events across the Valley. The high-level meeting was attended by top officials from the BSF, CRPF, Army, Traffic, Railway, and various intelligence wings. During the meeting, senior officers and District SSPs briefed the IGP on security arrangements, including measures at Bakshi Stadium. Addressing the meeting IGP Birdi directed officers to intensify night checking, area domination, and surveillance at vulnerable points, emphasizing strict vigilance against elements inimical to peace and security to ensure orderly celebrations across the region.
