Ganderbal : The 10-day workshop on “Computer-Aided Design (CAD) for Kashmiri Crafts,” organised by the Design Innovation Centre (DIC), Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir), for the artisans, culminated at the Tulmulla Campus here on Monday.
Addressing the valedictory function, Registrar Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir expressed his satisfaction with the participants’ progress, highlighting the meaningful learning achieved even in a short timeframe. He proposed the establishment of a “digital diary” to monitor trainees’ development post-workshop, emphasizing the importance of continuous mentoring and support. Dr. Mir acknowledged the visionary leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, noting that such initiatives reflect a commitment to empowering youth and artisans through academic outreach. He advised that while financial stability is essential, the pursuit of knowledge and humility should guide one’s journey, cautioning against the pursuit of luxuries over comforts.
Director of DIC, Prof. Shahid Rasool, described the workshop as the beginning of a long-term relationship between the University and the artisan community. He stressed the significance of design and presentation in a competitive marketplace, asserting that visual appeal and packaging are crucial for product visibility and success. He elaborated on the technical aspects of design, including color combinations and layout dynamics, and encouraged participants to view digital innovation and artificial intelligence as tools for enhancement rather than threats. Joint Director DIC, Dr. Javid Ahmad Wani, reported that the workshop included hands-on training in CAD software, with resource persons guiding artisans through practical exercises in color schemes and product visualization. He indicated that more such programs would be organized in the future. Participants expressed their gratitude for the transformative experience, describing the 10-day training as an eye-opener, and showcased the digital designs and prototypes they developed. Certificates were distributed to the participants.
