Says “India lives in a region where challenges emerge from terrorism, cross-border support to extremist elements”

New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said that India has always believed in peace and dialogue, and it remains committed to that approach, but when it comes to the sovereignty and the security of the people, they won’t compromise.
Speaking at the Chanakya Defence Dialogue in New Delhi, Rajnath Singh emphasized the capability and readiness of the Armed Forces, highlighting their role in managing neighborhood challenges and contributing to regional stability through a blend of restraint and firmness. He noted that India’s evolving global position is marked by economic growth, technological advancements, and a principled foreign policy, allowing the country to actively shape global discussions with a sense of responsibility and strategic autonomy. The Defense Minister pointed out that India is increasingly viewed as a reliable partner by countries in the Indo-Pacific and the Global South, a trust earned through a consistent commitment to respecting national sovereignty and upholding a rules-based international order. He acknowledged the complex challenges India faces, including terrorism, cross-border extremism, and maritime pressures, which necessitate constant vigilance and clarity of purpose. Singh stressed the importance of reform as a strategic necessity in response to rapidly changing global dynamics and complex threats. He articulated that reforms are essential for enhancing the adaptability of institutions and the agility of the Armed Forces, ultimately empowering India to shape its own destiny. The concept of “Reform to Transform” signifies a commitment to preparing India for a new era, aiming for a strong, secure, and developed nation. He underscored the interconnectedness of security and development, asserting that a developed India cannot exist without a secure and empowered foundation. Resilience, he argued, is as crucial as capability, enabling India to absorb shocks and adapt to challenges. The government is committed to ensuring that the Armed Forces remain future-ready, with stronger borders, modern systems, and expedited reforms contributing to a resilient defense ecosystem.
