Security heightened in key areas following Delhi blast

Srinagar: Jammu & Kashmir Police have intensified crackdown on terror networks across multiple districts of the Union Territory as part of coordinated preventive operations aimed at dismantling the terror ecosystem and strengthening internal security in the region, officials said on Thursday.
In Baramulla, police carried out a series of preventive actions targeting individuals and networks suspected of involvement in subversive activities, a police official said. He said six individuals linked with such networks were detained and bound down under the law, while 22 properties associated with terrorist aides were searched.
“As part of the same operation, 20 terror associates were bound down, and two were sent to jail under preventive detention laws,” he said. “Two individuals booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), who are currently on bail, were examined, and one was bound down under preventive law.”
Police identified eight other UAPA-accused for bail cancellation, with two cases already submitted to the competent court.
The security forces also conducted 16 Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs) at different locations and checked 292 vehicles across multiple checkpoints in the district.
Also, five individuals linked to the banned E&IMCO organisation and two Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) affiliates were questioned to ensure compliance with the law, the official said, adding that two absconding UAPA accused have been traced and legal proceedings have been initiated.
These operations were designed to pre-empt potential threats, identify disruptive elements, and maintain public order across the district, polcie said.
In Shopian, security forces launched extensive searches at multiple locations associated with JeI and Jammu and Kashmir Nationalist Organisation of Peace (JKNOP) members and their supporters.
In Pulwama, J&K Police and security forces jointly conducted cordon and search operations at several suspected locations linked with anti-national elements. The exercise aimed to trace individuals involved in unlawful activities and strengthen surveillance mechanisms to ensure public safety, the official said, adding that several premises were searched, and the identities of multiple individuals were verified during the coordinated operation.
Meanwhile, in Jammu, police held a meeting with mobile SIM card dealers to strengthen verification procedures for new users. The sellers were directed to strictly adhere to customer identification norms and maintain accurate records to prevent misuse of SIM cards for illegal purposes.
Inspections were being carried out across the Jammu region to ensure vendors complete full Know Your Customer (KYC) verification before issuing SIMs.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir remained on high alert for the third consecutive day following the November 10 Delhi blast near Red Fort, which killed 13 people and injured over 20.
Security agencies have stepped up vigilance along key routes, including the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, railway stations, and border areas. Additional checkpoints have been established, and patrols have been intensified in sensitive areas.
Officials said the heightened alert is part of a region-wide security review in coordination with central agencies, given that several suspects in the Delhi explosion are from Jammu and Kashmir.
Forces have been instructed to maintain strict watch on movements across districts, ensuring public safety and preventing any retaliatory incidents or attempts to disturb peace.
Police sources said that similar preventive operations will continue in the coming days as part of a comprehensive effort to curb terror financing, recruitment, and logistical support networks across the Union Territory
