Leh: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, on Friday emphasized the Administration’s dedication to fostering a self-reliant and economically empowered Ladakh during a Loan Distribution Ceremony organized by the Sindhu Infrastructure Development Corporation (SIDCO).
Speaking on the occasion the Lt Governor highlighted that achieving the vision of Atmanirbhar Ladakh requires inclusive development, engaging women, youth, artisans, and marginalized communities as active contributors to progress. Gupta stated that economic empowerment is essential for self-reliance and that current initiatives will shape Ladakh’s future as a model of sustainable development. During the event, he noted significant milestones in financial inclusion and economic self-sufficiency, with over 13,600 MSME units established, creating employment for more than 50,000 individuals. The operationalization of 147 Industrial Estate Units has further generated opportunities for local manufacturing and small-scale industries. Gupta praised SIDCO for its role in promoting economic empowerment among disadvantaged groups, ensuring that government schemes reach all deserving citizens. He highlighted various SIDCO initiatives, including the Virasat Scheme for traditional artisans, the Adivasi Mahila Sashaktikaran Yojana for empowering tribal women, and the Educational Loan Scheme for students. Loans are offered at concessional interest rates, facilitating wider access to credit and promoting entrepreneurship. Gupta reported that recent meetings approved loans totaling Rs 16.17 crore for 137 beneficiaries across Leh and Kargil, underscoring the Administration’s commitment to enhancing self-employment. Additionally, he mentioned that 4,188 artisans have registered under the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana, gaining recognition and market access for their craftsmanship. The establishment of ‘Brand Ladakh’ showrooms in Leh and Delhi aims to promote local products nationally. Gupta encouraged the youth to become job creators and leverage government initiatives to foster innovative ventures that contribute to the local economy. In conclusion, he reiterated that the government’s vision extends beyond financial assistance, focusing on dignity, opportunity, and empowerment for all individuals. Each beneficiary is urged to view their loan as a responsibility to fulfill their aspirations and contribute to Ladakh’s development. The ceremony also featured remarks from SIDCO officials, who outlined the organization’s journey and its impact on nurturing entrepreneurship in the region.
