New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday slammed the Congress party during the inauguration of a year-long commemoration of the national song “Vande Mataram,” marking its 150th anniversary.
Speaking on the occasion Prime Minister said that significant stanzas of the song were omitted in 1937, which he claimed contributed to the seeds of partition and reflects a continuing “divisive mindset” in the country. Modi emphasized the importance of “Vande Mataram” as a symbol of India’s freedom struggle and national unity, asserting that it embodies the spirit and aspirations of every Indian. During the event, held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, Modi released a commemorative stamp and coin to honor the occasion. He articulated that “Vande Mataram” remains relevant across generations and serves as a source of inspiration and energy for the nation. The Prime Minister referenced India’s resilience against terrorism, suggesting that the country can embody strength and courage when faced with challenges. The commemoration will officially run from November 7, 2025, to November 7, 2026, celebrating the song’s historical significance and its role in fostering national pride. “Vande Mataram,” written by Bankim Chandra Chatterji in 1875, first appeared in the literary journal “Bangadarshan” as part of his novel “Anandamath.” Modi’s remarks underscore the song’s enduring legacy as a mantra of devotion to Mother India and a call for national progress in knowledge, science, and technology.
