J&K govt allocates Rs 49.57 Cr to 10 Municipal Councils in Kashmir

Anantnag, B’la, Sopore among top funded councils in 2025–26 capex budget

Srinagar : The Jammu and Kashmir government has allocated Rs 49.57 crore to ten Municipal Councils across the Kashmir province under the Capex Budget 2025–26. The funds have been distributed under three sectors, including Finance Commission (FC) grants, Urban Development and Drainage.
Details provided by the Housing and Urban Development Department reveal that the Anantnag Municipal Council received the highest allocation of Rs 800.92 lakh, including Rs 645.46 lakh as FC grants and Rs 155.46 lakh for urban development.
Followed by Baramulla with Rs 763.37 lakh, comprising Rs 613.50 lakh as FC grants, Rs 28.87 lakh for urban development and Rs 121 lakh for drainage, while Sopore Municipal Council was sanctioned Rs 717.78 lakh, which includes Rs 557.27 lakh under FC grants, Rs 58.65 lakh for urban development and Rs 101.86 lakh for drainage works.
Similarly, Bandipora Municipal Council received Rs 561.38 lakh, including Rs 520.28 lakh as FC grants and Rs 41.10 lakh for urban development. Kupwara Municipal Council was allocated Rs 372.91 lakh, with Rs 230 lakh under FC grants, Rs 52.91 lakh for development and Rs 90 lakh for drainage.
Ganderbal Municipal Council was allocated Rs 365.54 lakh, which includes Rs 327.54 lakh as FC grants and Rs 38 lakh under urban development, while Budgam was sanctioned Rs 333.94 lakh, including Rs 193.94 lakh as FC grants, Rs 50 lakh for development and Rs 90 lakh for drainage.
Moreover, Kulgam Municipal Council was sanctioned Rs 527.24 lakh, including Rs 448.67 lakh under FC grants, Rs 52.57 lakh for urban development and Rs 26 lakh for drainage works.
Besides, Pulwama received Rs 317.94 lakh, comprising Rs 299.17 lakh as FC grants and Rs 18.77 lakh for development, Shopian got Rs 196.60 lakh, with Rs 177.08 lakh as FC grants and Rs 19.52 lakh for development works.
The total allocation for all ten Municipal Councils amounts to Rs 4,957.62 lakh, aimed at strengthening local infrastructure, drainage, and civic development across Kashmir province, the government said
