Says “CM’s push for tourism bearing fruit”
Srinagar: Minister Javed Dar on Saturday said the government is working on a comprehensive policy to curb illegal mining in Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring that only genuine stakeholders benefit from the process.
Talking to reporters in Baramulla, Dar admitted that mining has been a long-standing issue, with a few individuals taking undue advantage for years.
He acknowledged the environmental damage caused by unregulated mining and stressed the need for an effective policy framework. “Illegal mining has threatened the environment. Police and the department have a role to play, but they cannot watch 24×7. This is why loopholes exist. A policy will soon be framed to streamline the sector and safeguard the environment while benefiting genuine people,” he said.
The Minister also welcomed the reopening of tourist destinations across Jammu and Kashmir, crediting the Chief Minister’s sustained efforts for the development. “Tourism revival is a welcome step. The Chief Minister has been vocal about it and his push has had a clear impact. Whenever every destination is thrown open, it benefits people and the economy at large,” he noted.
