New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension of General Anil Chauhan’s service as Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) until May 30, 2026, or until further notice.
General Chauhan, who was appointed CDS on September 28, 2022, has had a distinguished career in the Indian Army since his commissioning in 1981, receiving several prestigious awards for his exemplary service. In a related development, the inaugural Tri Services Academia Technology Symposium (T-SATS) commenced at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi, aimed at enhancing the collaboration between the Services and academia in research and development for advanced technologies tailored for the Indian Armed Forces. General Chauhan inaugurated the symposium, which saw participation from various academic institutions, including IISc, IITs, IIITs, and private technology institutes. During his address, General Chauhan emphasized the evolving nature of modern warfare, highlighting the need for integrated technological solutions that address both kinetic and non-kinetic domains. He underscored the importance of collaboration among academia, startups, and industry in developing indigenous capabilities to meet future operational demands. The CDS advocated for a comprehensive national approach to innovation, aiming to position India as a leader in next-generation defense technologies. Additionally, the symposium featured a Technology Exhibition showcasing 43 innovative projects evaluated for their military applications. Promising projects will be considered for future research and development collaboration and funding support.
