3.35 Lakh Yatra Footfall Shows Rising Devotion Of Devotees

Pahalgam, Sonamarg: Amid chants of devotion and an air of festivity, the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra has reached a significant milestone in 2025. With the number of pilgrims crossing 3.35 lakh, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing one of the most well-managed and spiritually uplifting yatras in recent years.
This week, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha visited the Nunwan and Chandanwari base camps to take stock of arrangements and personally interact with the devotees, volunteers, officials and service providers who are at the heart of this sacred annual event. The Lieutenant Governor’s visit underscored the administration’s continued commitment to ensuring the comfort, safety and spiritual fulfilment of the yatris. During his tour, LG Sinha reviewed logistics and facilities ranging from accommodation, sanitation, health services, and traffic management to disaster preparedness and security arrangements. The message was clear—Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra is not only a journey of faith, but also a coordinated civic and humanitarian effort involving multiple stakeholders working tirelessly behind the scenes.
A Journey Of Faith, A Model Of Coordination: Interacting with pilgrims, langer sevadars, sanitation workers, doctors, police officials and Shrine Board staff, the LG praised the seamless efforts that have gone into organizing the yatra. He noted that the success of the Yatra lies in the dedication and synergy among civil, police and military administration, service providers, Shrine Board officials, and volunteers who have created an ecosystem of care and service. “The Yatra has crossed the 3.35 lakh mark—a testament to the faith of the pilgrims and the meticulous planning and execution by all those involved. Ninety-seven percent of the pilgrims have given positive feedback, which is a reflection of our collective effort,” LG Sinha said. He described the entire atmosphere at the base camps as one of “spiritual fervour and festivity,” adding that the energy and devotion on the ground was both humbling and inspiring. LG also acknowledged that beyond the religious significance, the pilgrimage is also a vital contributor to the economy, especially the tourism and hospitality sectors in Jammu and Kashmir. “The success of this year’s Yatra will give a significant boost to the tourism sector. It sends a strong message to the world about peace, hospitality and the strength of our local systems,” he said.
Focus On Healthcare, Safety: During his visit, LG Sinha conducted a thorough review of the medical facilities available at the camps. He emphasized the importance of studying the health patterns among pilgrims, instructing the concerned officials to analyse causes behind health-related incidents and take proactive steps to mitigate them. “Pilgrim safety and well-being must remain our top priority,” he said, directing health officials to ensure that all medical points along the Yatra route are equipped with trained personnel, sufficient medicines and ambulance support. He also stressed on building awareness among pilgrims, especially those with pre-existing conditions, to ensure a safer experience. Furthermore, the LG highlighted the need to improve emergency response systems, conduct regular drills, and strengthen coordination among disaster management teams, security forces, and the health department to prepare for any unforeseen situation.
Improving Feedback, Mobility: The Lieutenant Governor also took a detailed briefing on the feedback mechanism implemented by the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board (SASB). He commended the digital feedback system that has been put in place to gather real-time insights from yatris on services and facilities. In a key direction, he called for the integration of a traffic feedback option into the system to streamline pilgrim movement, especially during peak hours. “The smooth movement of yatris is essential not only for comfort but also for safety. An upgraded, interactive feedback system that includes traffic updates and route preferences will go a long way in enhancing the pilgrimage experience,” he remarked. LG Sinha also praised the traffic management strategies implemented so far, including the use of technology, deployment of traffic police along sensitive junctions, and coordination between different security and logistic wings. He encouraged further innovation in this domain to maintain momentum.
Teamwork Behind The Scenes: The Lieutenant Governor was accompanied by key officials who play a crucial role in managing the Yatra. These included Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, Principal Secretary to the LG and CEO of SASB; Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Shri Vijay Kumar Bidhuri; IGP Kashmir Shri VK Birdi; and Shri Rahul Yadav, MD JKPDCL and the Nodal Officer for the Pahalgam Axis. Deputy Commissioner of Anantnag, Shri Syeed Fakhrudin Hamid, along with other district officials, police and security forces, also joined the review, showcasing the multi-layered coordination and responsibility sharing that powers the Amarnath Yatra. Their presence during the visit highlighted the boots-on-ground approach that the administration has adopted—ensuring senior officers are consistently monitoring and addressing concerns in real time. Regular reviews, camp visits, and pilgrim interaction sessions have become a norm, reflecting a proactive rather than reactive style of governance.
Pilgrims’ Gratitude, Local Participation: Many pilgrims shared their positive experiences with the Lieutenant Governor, expressing gratitude for the safe, clean and spiritually fulfilling environment. From organised langars offering hot meals to uninterrupted electricity and mobile connectivity at remote altitudes, the collective experience has left yatris appreciative of the arrangements. Local stakeholders too, including ponywalas, hoteliers, and transport providers, expressed optimism about the Yatra’s impact on the local economy. “This year, we are seeing more footfall, and that means better earnings. It helps everyone, our families, shopkeepers, even artisans,” said a local tent provider near Chandanwari. Volunteer groups and langer sevadars, many from outside J&K, also noted the high degree of cooperation they’ve received from the local administration and security forces. This harmonious blend of religious service and civic discipline is what makes the Amarnath Yatra not just a ritual, but a rare model of participative governance. The 2025 edition of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra is proving to be more than a spiritual journey—it is a living example of how faith, service and administration can come together to create an extraordinary public experience. The presence of LG Manoj Sinha on the ground, meeting pilgrims and frontline workers alike, sends a message of accessibility and accountability at the highest levels. His praise for the commitment of officials and service providers reinforces the idea that efficient governance is not just about plans on paper, but execution with empathy and discipline. The LG’s call for further innovation in health response, feedback systems, and traffic management indicates that the administration is keen to learn and evolve in real time. As lakhs of devotees continue their sacred ascent to the holy cave of Baba Barfani, they are supported by an unseen but deeply committed machinery of care. The 2025 Amarnath Yatra, thus far, stands as a benchmark for what a well-coordinated and people-centric pilgrimage looks like—where every step of the way, faith is honoured not just in prayer, but in service.
