Srinagar : In a heartwarming display of communal harmony and interfaith unity, a group of Sikh volunteers distributed water bottles and dates to fasting Muslims at Lal Chowk during Iftar time. The initiative, which took place in the bustling heart of Srinagar, was aimed at fostering brotherhood and strengthening the bonds of humanity among different communities.
As the call for Maghrib prayers echoed through the streets, signaling the end of the fast, the Sikh volunteers stood at key locations, offering water and dates to those observing Ramadan. The sight of Sikhs extending their hands in service to their Muslim brethren resonated deeply with onlookers, who praised the gesture as a beautiful reminder of Kashmir’s rich tradition of coexistence and mutual respect.
Local residents and passersby expressed their appreciation for the initiative, calling it a shining example of the valley’s age-old culture of brotherhood.
“This is the real Kashmir we have always known, where love and unity define us. Such gestures remind us of our shared heritage,” said Abdul Rashid, a resident of Srinagar. Another local, Bilal Ahmad, who was among those receiving water and dates, expressed his gratitude, saying, “Fasting is a time of reflection and devotion, and when people from other communities come forward to support us, it only strengthens our faith in humanity.”
An elderly man, Mohammad Shafi, praised the Sikh volunteers, recalling past instances of communal harmony in the valley. “Our Sikh brothers have always been there for us, be it during natural calamities or times of need. Their kindness today is yet another example of our unity.” The act of generosity by the Sikh community is not an isolated event. In recent years, similar efforts have been witnessed across Kashmir, where people from different faiths come forward to support and serve each other, especially during times of religious significance. At a time when the world often sees divisions based on religion and ideology, this simple yet powerful gesture serves as a reminder that love, kindness, and humanity transcend all barriers. As the people of Kashmir continue to uphold these values, such acts of solidarity strengthen the social fabric and reaffirm the deep-rooted spirit of unity in the valley.
