Era Of Killings Over, Surge In Dev, A New Reality In J&K: HM Amit Shah
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterWhatsappTelegramEmail

“Incidents of violence have decreased by 70%, and deaths due to such incidents have fallen by 72% over the last ten years India is on the path to becoming free of militancy, showcasing the Modi government’s success in restoring peace and order in areas previously plagued by violence. The emphasis on long-term, permanent solutions, combined with development initiatives, has contributed to this transformation.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in a recent address, lauded the Narendra Modi government’s efforts in transforming violence-prone regions like Kashmir and curbing the drug menace in India.  Speaking after the inauguration of a new office building of the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner and Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) in Shahibaug, Ahmedabad, Shah emphasized that the government’s strong determination, effective solutions, and pro-development approach have brought about significant changes across the country.  He also highlighted achievements in areas like internal security, anti-drug operations, and urban development, marking a shift in India’s governance landscape over the past decade.

Decreased Violence in Kashmir, Other Regions: Shah emphasized how the Modi government’s policies have significantly reduced violence in conflict-prone areas. He pointed out that in the past decade, regions like Kashmir affected by militancy have witnessed a remarkable decline in violent incidents.  “A decade ago, bomb blasts in these three hotspots were so frequent that they were no longer newsworthy. But thanks to the strong leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, incidents of violence have decreased by 70%, and deaths due to such incidents have fallen by 72% over the last ten years,” Shah said. Home Minister said that India is on the path to becoming free of militancy, showcasing the Modi government’s success in restoring peace and order in areas previously plagued by violence. The emphasis on long-term, permanent solutions, combined with development initiatives, has contributed to this transformation, Shah added.

Crackdown on Drug Trade; A Major Achievement: In his speech, Amit Shah also took the opportunity to criticize the Congress party for its alleged complicity in enabling the spread of illegal drug trade, particularly in North India. Referring to a recent massive drug bust in Delhi, where over 560 kilograms of cocaine and 40 kilograms of hydroponic marijuana were seized, Shah said, “This seizure, valued at Rs 5,620 crore, is one of Delhi’s biggest drug busts, and the main accused is Tushar Goel, chairman of the Delhi Youth Congress’ RTI cell.” Shah highlighted how the BJP government has intensified its anti-drug operations since coming to power in 2014. He provided data to demonstrate the stark difference in drug seizures under the Congress and BJP governments.  “Between 2004 and 2014, when Congress was in power, 1.52 lakh kilograms of drugs were seized across the country. However, from 2014 to 2024, under the BJP government, 5.43 lakh kilograms of drugs were confiscated,” he said. He further claimed that drugs worth Rs 768 crore were seized during the Congress rule, compared to Rs 27,600 crore during the BJP’s tenure. This significant increase in drug seizures, according to Shah, reflects the government’s commitment to eradicating drug trafficking.

Congress Accused Of Complicity In Drug Trade: Shah did not hold back in his criticism of the Congress party, accusing it of turning parts of North India into drug trafficking hubs when it was in power.  He pointed out that key states like Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi had become major hotspots for illegal drug trade during the Congress regime. He claimed that the Congress party’s lax attitude towards drugs had contributed to the proliferation of narcotics in these regions. “The involvement of a Congress leader like Tushar Goel in the drug trade raises serious questions about the party’s ability to fight the narcotics menace,” Shah said. He argued that a party whose members are allegedly involved in the drug trade cannot be expected to provide effective governance on this front. In contrast, he praised the Modi government’s decisive actions in combating drug trafficking. Shah pointed to the BJP government’s success in Gujarat, where drugs worth Rs 8,500 crore were seized over the last three years. “The only party capable of achieving the prime minister’s goal of a drug-free India is the BJP,” Shah asserted.

“A critical aspect of the way forward is empowering local governance structures. Decentralization of power will enable more effective decision-making tailored to the region’s specific needs. Strengthening Panchayati Raj institutions can enhance grassroots participation in governance, allowing residents to voice their concerns and contribute to developmental planning. This empowerment fosters a sense of ownership among the people and helps in addressing local issues more efficiently. Amit Shah’s vision includes fostering a sense of national integration among the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”

Urban Development; Modi’s Vision For A Modern India:

Shah also took the opportunity to discuss the progress made in urban development under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. Speaking after launching several developmental projects in Gandhinagar, he highlighted how PM Modi’s government has focused on improving urban infrastructure and bringing modern facilities to cities across India. “Before 2014, there was no comprehensive policy or project for urban development in India. It was PM Modi who formulated an urban development policy that aims to provide modern facilities to cities across the country,” Shah said. The Union Home Minister mentioned several key initiatives introduced under the Modi government, such as the Smart City Mission, e-Governance, CCTV networks, the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), and the implementation of the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA). These initiatives, according to Shah, have been instrumental in transforming cities like Gandhinagar into modern urban hubs. Shah emphasized that Gandhinagar, which is developing as a Smart City, is a model for urban development, thanks to the efforts of PM Modi. He also highlighted the introduction of solar panels, electric buses, and metro rail projects as examples of the government’s focus on sustainable development.

PM Modi’s Cleanliness Movement: Continuing Gandhi’s Legacy: Shah also drew parallels between Mahatma Gandhi and Prime Minister Modi, particularly in their shared focus on cleanliness. Addressing the audience at the event, he said, “Two sons from Gujarat—Mahatma Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi—have made cleanliness a national priority. For the first time in 70 years, a prime minister has addressed the importance of sanitation and public health from the Red Fort.” The Union Home Minister credited PM Modi for launching a cleanliness movement that has had a significant impact on the health and life expectancy of Indian citizens. He referred to the construction of toilets and the promotion of hygiene as critical achievements of the Modi government, describing them as “rites of cleanliness” that the prime minister has instilled in the nation. Shah remarked that Prime Minister Modi is the second national leader, after Gandhi, to emphasize the fundamental need for cleanliness in both urban and rural areas. Shah’s address covered a broad spectrum of issues, from the government’s success in reducing violence in regions like Kashmir, to cracking down on drug trade, and promoting urban development across India.  Home Minister’s speech showcased the Modi government’s strong commitment to ensuring peace, security, and prosperity for all citizens.  By highlighting the stark contrast between the BJP and Congress in terms of governance, Shah reinforced the narrative that the Modi government has brought about significant positive changes over the past decade. His words resonated with a vision of a modern, clean, and safe India, built on the foundations of strong leadership and pro-development policies. As India continues to progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, these achievements serve as a testament to the government’s dedication to transforming the nation for the better. Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent address underscores a comprehensive strategy for the future of Jammu and Kashmir, reflecting the central government’s commitment to ensuring peace, security, and development in the region.  This way forward aims to build upon the progress made in the past decade, enhancing the quality of life for residents while fostering a climate of stability and growth. One of the primary objectives in Jammu and Kashmir is to maintain and further improve the security situation, he said.

Kashmir Horizon View: Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the significant reduction in violence in the region, with incidents decreasing by 70% and deaths by 72% over the past decade.  To build on this success, it is essential to strengthen intelligence networks, increase community policing, and enhance cooperation between local security forces and central agencies. This proactive approach will not only help in curbing militancy and militancy but also build trust between law enforcement and the local population. Shah emphasized the importance of development in transforming Jammu and Kashmir. The government’s initiatives must focus on enhancing infrastructure, promoting tourism, and creating job opportunities.  Key projects, such as road connectivity, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions, should be prioritized to address the unique needs of the region. By investing in local industries and empowering youth through skill development programs, the government can ensure sustainable economic growth and improve the standard of living. A critical aspect of the way forward is empowering local governance structures. Amit Shah’s vision includes fostering a sense of national integration among the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Initiatives that promote cultural exchange, social harmony, and economic cooperation across regions can bridge divides and foster a sense of unity. Educational programs that emphasize the importance of diversity and inclusivity can play a vital role in building mutual respect and understanding among different communities. Shah’s address also pointed to the urgent need to combat the drug menace in Jammu and Kashmir. With the rise in drug-related issues, it is crucial to implement comprehensive anti-drug campaigns, involving local communities, NGOs, and law enforcement agencies. Awareness programs that educate the youth about the dangers of drug abuse, combined with strict enforcement measures against traffickers, can create a healthier environment for future generations. In today’s digital age, leveraging technology is essential for effective governance. Implementing e-Governance solutions can enhance transparency, streamline public services, and facilitate better communication between the government and citizens. Initiatives like online grievance redressal systems, digital payment options, and access to information through mobile applications can empower citizens and improve their interaction with government services. As articulated by Amit Shah the strategy involves a multi-faceted approach that prioritizes security, development, and integration. By building on past successes and addressing the challenges head-on, the central government can create a brighter future for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, fostering an environment of peace, progress, and prosperity.  Through sustained efforts and a commitment to inclusivity, the region can emerge as a thriving part of India, contributing to the nation’s growth story.
