They conspired to send me, AAP leaders to jail: Kejriwal

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party’s National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of conspiring against him and his party colleague to send them to jail, claiming that the latter was afraid of the public welfare work done by Delhi government over the past ten years.

Addressing a gathering at the ‘Janata Ki Adalat’ event at Jantar Mantar, Kejriwal presented a report-card of his government’s work over the past decade and accused the Central government of creating hurdles for his government.

“Over the past ten years, we have run the government with honesty. We made electricity and water free, improved education and healthcare services, but Modi felt that to defeat us, he had to attack our honesty. He conspired to portray us as dishonest, under which many of us, including Manish Sisodia and other AAP leaders, were imprisoned,” he said.

He strongly criticized the central government, stating, “Allegations do not affect these leaders because they are thick-skinned. But I am not a leader, I am a common man, and these accusations affect me. I decided to come before the people because I cannot live with this stain. If I were dishonest, I wouldn’t have made electricity free, provided free bus rides for women, or built schools for children.”

“Their government rules 22 states, but nowhere is electricity free, and there is no free travel for women. Now you tell me, who is the real thief? Is Kejriwal a thief, or are those who are trying to send Kejriwal to jail, the real thieves?,” he added.

Kejriwal also posed five questions to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat. He asked whether the RSS agreed with the way Modi had been toppling governments using the fear of Enforcement Directorate and Central Bureau of Investigation.

He also asked, “If the RSS supported Modi bringing the most corrupt leaders into the BJP. Since BJP was born out of the RSS, it is the RSS’s responsibility to ensure BJP does not stray from its path.”

“Whether Mohan Bhagwat had ever tried to stop Modi,” he asked, expressing concern over BJP President J P Nadda’s comment during the Lok Sabha elections that the BJP no longer needs the RSS.

“I want to ask Mohan Bhagwat, you were the ones who made the rule that at the age of 75, one must retire. Shouldn’t this rule, which applied to Lal Krishna Advani, also apply to Modi?,” he said.
