New Delhi: The Congress on Wednesday attacked the BJP government stating that it has failed to establish the ‘so-called Chhattisgarh liquor scam’ and was nothing but an ‘election prosecution’ to defame the then state government and administration.

Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters here, senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, “BJP had fabricated the entire story of liquor scam in Chhattisgarh worth over Rs 2000 crore due to political animosity.

The Prime Minister, Home Minister and several leaders of the BJP had accused that the Chief Minister and his senior officials were involved. Between 2019 to 2023, many people were interrogated and tortured day and night but nothing could be established. This was an election prosecution”.

He said that all this was done because elections were to be held. so when the election bugle sounded, the ED bugle also sounded.

Accusing the Modi government of forming an alliance with ED, CBI, IT and etc. Singhvi said, “If you go through thoroughly, 99% of the cases with 10 to 20% political angle are against the Opposition leaders”.

He also alleged, “All of a sudden cases either stop or close after someone changes the party. Many a times after arrest people become government witnesses and everything becomes fine. We have seen such things happening in the last few days. The people of the country know and understand everything,” the Supreme Court lawyer said.

The senior Congress leader said that the Supreme Court has put forward some points in the case of so-called liquor scam of Chhattisgarh. The court had dismissed the entire case and there was no case of money laundering in this.

The court also said that the ED case was made only due to imaginary and malicious political motives to defame the government and administration, to make allegations against the former Chief Minister and on the basis of the Income Tax raids, he claimed.

Singhvi asked, “If there was a scam then why did the ED not present even a single evidence of money laundering before the court after a long investigation?”

He also questioned as to why the ED not arrest even a single liquor manufacturer? And why the BJP government in the state has not taken any action after coming to power?
