We will overcome temporary setbacks: Mallikarjun Kharge

New Delhi: On a day the BJP scored spectacular victories over the Congress in three Hindi heartland states, the grand old party described the results as “disappointing” but “temporary setbacks” and exuded confidence in gearing up fully for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls along with partners of the I.N.D.I.A alliance.

Kharge also thanked the people of Telangana, where the Congress snatched power by defeating the ruling BRS.

Taking to X, Kharge wrote, “I thank the people of Telangana for the mandate we have received from them.”

He also thanked the voters who backed his party in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan and expressed a resolve to revive and rebuild the Congress in these states.

The BJP seized power from the Congress in Chattisgarh and Rajasthan and retained its hold with a massive majority in Madhya Pradesh

“Our performance in these three states has no doubt been disappointing, but with determination, we reaffirm our strong resolve to rebuild and revive ourselves in these three states. The Congress party fought a spirited campaign in all these four states. I acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of lakhs of our workers.”

In a bid to boost the confidence of party workers and leaders, Kharge wrote, “We will overcome temporary setbacks and prepare ourselves fully for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections along with the INDIA parties.”

Earlier in the day, Talking to reporters in Telangana, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar, who had extensively campaigned for the party, expressed his gratitude to the people of the state for reposing faith in the Congress.

“They (people) have decided to change, there must be change for progress and development,” he said.

On being asked who would be the Chief Minister in Telangana, Shivkumar said, “The party will take a call on collective leadership. The election was fought on collective leadership. I am not here to discuss those issues.”

When media persons asked him regarding KCR and KTR, Shivkumar said, “I do not want to comment on KCR or KTR. The people have already given them answers.”

Telangana Congress workers have started celebrations at the party office in the state as the party is leading in poll results. The state party president Revanth Reddy greeted party workers and leaders.
