Mumbai: In a bid to counter menace of touting of railway reservation tickets and to safeguard the interest of bonafied passengers, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Central Railway intensified their campaign against touts by conducting raids mostly on premises of private travel agencies in all five divisions of CR.
During the period from April 2023 to October 2023, in all 269 cases of touting were registered and so far 317 persons were arrested under section 143 of Railways Act besides imposition of fine worth Rs 3.42 lakh, said a press release here on Sunday.
Out of these 269 cases, 97 cases of touting were registered in Mumbai Division alone during the above-mentioned period and so far 117 persons were arrested for illegal touting activities.
It was followed by Bhusawal division where 72 cases were registered and 77 persons arrested, Pune with 56 registered cases and 74 arrests, Nagpur with 36 cases and 41 arrests and Solapur with 8 cases and 8 arrests.
During the corresponding period of last year also, the RPF had registered 178 cases of touting and arrested 208 persons and imposed a fine of Rs 6.64 lakh, said a press release here on Sunday.
