Srinagar : JKSCERT has framed a timeline for conduct of formative assessment of students under the Student Assessment and Evaluation (SA&E) up to Class 8th for the summer and winter Zone Schools of Jammu and Kashmir.
Formative assessment is a range of formal and informal assessment procedures conducted by teachers during the learning process in order to modify teaching and learning activities to improve student attainment.
The Jammu and Kashmir State Council of Educational Research and Trainings (JKSCERT) has said that under SA&E in accordance with the provisions in National Education Policy-2020 and Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2019 (Amended) for classes up to 8th has framed a timeline for the summer and winter zone schools of JKUT from Academic Session 2023-24.
It said that formative assessments have been conducted during the current academic session 2023-24 by the concerned schools of J&K .
“Formative Assessment from classes I-VI shall be conducted by subject teachers to evaluate the level of preparation and progress of the child throughout the year as per School Based Assessment and Holistic Progress Report (HPC) without disturbing the routine classwork,” JKSCERT said.
It also said that mentoring of students should be done by mentor teachers as per mechanism notified by School Education Department J&K.
According to the JKSCERT, teachers are required to identify the learning gaps and focus should be on the attainment of Learning Outcomes and competences as envisaged in National Education Policy 2020 through Formative and Summative Assessments.
“Teachers are required to use different techniques to assess the Children with following major objectives including identifying the child’s strengths, needs, interests and preferences,” it reads
